Pia Toscano Goes 'River Deep, Mountain High' on 'American Idol' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Apr 7th 2011 12:43AM
Pia Toscano, 'American Idol'As promised, Pia Toscano picked up the tempo on this week's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame episode of 'American Idol' (Wed., 8PM ET on FOX). We almost expected her to rock a mini-skirt to honor the style of Tina Turner as well as the rocking vocals.

Nevertheless, on 'River Deep, Mountain High,' Toscano showed us that she knows how to rock, without sacrificing that powerful, beautiful voice that carried her this far. It was absolutely the right move, showing a bit of diversity and showmanship.

"There's a million guys out there in a million bars having a million drinks about you tonight," Steven Tyler said.

Sure, we were talking about the music and her singing, Steven. But we can get on board. Toscano is a beautiful young woman and looked great again tonight.

'American Idol' airs Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8PM ET on FOX.

You are so right acoolbreeze62, I also believe since the cell phone revolution there has not been a balanced vote. It would be interesting to know the demographics of percentages of male votes to female votes. I would expect to find more female teenies voting for the pretty boys.

I propose the following solution to the voting problem! They should let the public select one guy, one girl and a wild card from each group of the three final groups. Then the judges should pick another deserving guy and girl. This should continue until the final 12, at which point the judges should pick one person each week deserving to move on and America votes for the remaining contestants. This should continue until it gets down to the final two, then America gets to vote for the final two! This would help assure that “actual” singing talent endures! Some might say this would prolong the show, taking too many episodes but let’s face it, there is a TON of wasted time and prolonging on “Idols” part that could and should be removed, getting down to the nitty gritty! If they did this, I would venture to say that not only would they not have to run any extra episodes but the show would be just as entertaining and exciting! Maybe more so considering it would be more difficult to choose among a more talented group of contestants! All the drama and suspense would still exist and voting would probably be closer than ever! Again, if they would eliminate much of the B.S. and use the time to showcase more true talent then the music world would be much better off! Hence, we Americans would be much better off in what we would have available to listen too! Until this happens ALOT of great talent will continue to walk out the door never to be heard from again! Since all of this is unlikely to happen I say... SO LONG AMERICAN IDOL! Last nights travesty of the teenie boppers causing Pia to be kicked off was the final straw! By the way…To all you tone deaf, hormone driven, little hoes empting daddy's bank account with your little pink jeweled cased covered cell phones with Jonas Brothers ringtones out there...Congratulations! You succeeded in ruining ALOT of peoples favorite show! As for A.I. and it ratings hungry, manipulating, hormonger producers with you're ridiculously flawed system… Congratulations to you as well! They couldn't have ruined it without you! SEE YA!

It seems that this year is the the year that ALL of the Idols are VERY talented! Whether it's a "singing" competition or a "musical talent" competition, ALL of the final 11 EXTREMELY talented! Let's face it, Thea, the little 15 year old that got voted off with Neame (sorry if I didn't spell your name right...but Neame, you got a LOT of my votes) anyway..Thea had a great voice..but ..boring to watch. I felt Pia was the same....boring! The judges told her EVERY WEEK to step up her "performance" (not her vocals). Pia didn't seem to get that part. I think this years show is EXCITING, FUN and I CAN'T wait for Wed and Thurs nights!! As far as who's going to win it? Who cares this year, like I said "All of them are GREAT"! But, who would you go see at a concert?? Me? I'd pay to see .. Casey, Paul and James. Their band of 4 to include Stefano would be a GREAT concert too. Who would I download? ALL of them!!! (Except Pia and Thea) too slow for my taste is all!

The biggest mistake that has ever been made on Idol just happened. The only good part is that PIA will be snapped up by 100's of potential producers, model agencies, etc. She is the most beautiful, talented person that has ever graced the stage of American Idol. I wish her the very best in the future. It will be a well deserved, fabulous future at that. Goodbye to American Idol from my family and some friends as well.

pia has a great voice but cant picture her rolling around half naked in a music video....scotty needs to be on nashville star if it still exists...james will suffer the same fate adam lambert did and get cheated out of winning....who knows besides the judges...i quit voting when adam was cheated out of what he obviously won.

Why would she have to make a music "video"? Just recording a CD is good enough--it's known as "singing", my man!

We all know Steve tylers comments hardly meant that a million guys in a million bars were drinking to her singing!

Brillant Voice???? If you are tone deaf. She is mediocre at best. Great looks, but weak talent.

If her voice isn't "brilliant", whose is? Celine Dion and Barbra Striesand are too old to compete!

Brilliant voice, great looks. Would like to see her come out where appropriate (based on the song), with a little more
earthiness to her look. A little softer like the blond in Sugarland or something on that order. Then the 1 million guys in the million bars will be buying 3 million drinks! I'm just saying.
