Kathleen Turner on Doing Her Own Stunts in Classic Movies (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Apr 8th 2011 11:45AM
On 'Good Morning America' (weekdays, 7AM ET on ABC), Kathleen Turner revealed that she did some of her own stunts in two of her most famous movies. Turner herself slid down a muddy hillside in the iconic scene from 'Romancing the Stone' and she actually swung from a chandelier in 'The War of the Roses.'

Turner said he thoroughly enjoyed her muddy ride in 'Romancing the Stone,' but didn't enjoy cleaning up. "I did the mudslide five times," she said. "The cleanup was difficult after. I'm trying to get all the mud out of my ears and nose. It was not fun."

In terms of 'War of the Roses,' Turner said she was trying to inspire a reluctant stunt woman to swing on the chandelier, but ended up doing the stunt herself. "I wasn't actually supposed to do that. I had a wonderful stunt woman, but, for some reason, she kind of froze. So, I said, 'Oh, I'll give it a go,' thinking I'd just loosen her up. And, I hit the springboard, sailed through the air and said, 'Oh, well, I guess I'm doing it,'" she said.

@ Engelun, to a degree I side with you on today's actresses and actors. But some studios won't let thier 'stars' risk the stunts. If that star 'breaks' a leg or has a accident that injures thier face, production has to shut down. And with movies costing millions most studios won't let thier 'money maker' take a chance that could halt prodution. Also these days with 'CG' (computer graphics) a 'body double' could do the stunt and the 'star's' face placed on the stuntperson's body. Check the movie site IMDB (International Movie Data Base), you'll enjoy it!

goes to show that the real actors and actresses of the past are better than the young ones now. The young ones these days don't know how to do any stunts, except to make facial poses for a close up camera and let the computer do a background to try to make it look like they are doing it.
