Robert Redford Gets the Jitters While Throwing First Pitch at Cubs Game (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Apr 8th 2011 12:30PM
One wouldn't necessarily expect Robert Redford, given his accomplished career, to suffer from a case of nerves. But, the legendary actor admitted to having the jitters on 'Today' when he was invited to throw the first pitch at the Chicago Cubs home opener.

"Boy was I nervous," explained Redford. Then, footage of his pitch was shown, in which Redford delivers an exceedingly high throw.

"I threw it high on purpose. You know why? I didn't want to throw it in the dirt," he said. "When they played the theme song from 'The Natural,' that's when I was cooked. Throw it high, you know? Don't throw low."

One of the funniest moments for me, was that Kerry Wood (a cubs reliever) did the catching for Redford. Redford jokingly faked out Kerry with a first pitch, then threw the second pitch, high as he said. You see Kerry walking up to Robert Redford and instead of what usually happens, where the player signs the ball and hands it back to the guest pitcher, Redford signed the ball and handed it back to Kerry.
