'Dancing With the Stars' Week Four Performance Recap: Kirstie Alley Steals the Spotlight ... Again

by Katy Kroll, posted Apr 12th 2011 1:15AM
Kirstie, Kirstie, Kirstie. What are we gonna do with you?

It seems like every time I have my 'Dancing With the Stars' recap all but written, she comes in at the last minute and steals the show, whether she means to or not.

Just when it looked like she'd never live down last week's tumble (the show has replayed it every chance it's gotten), she went and goofed again, solidifying herself as the season's resident hot mess. This time, she lost her shoe mid-performance and sat on the floor fumbling to get it back on as partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy awkwardly danced around her until she could get back up.

This week's show was dubbed "classical night," as the couples had to dance to classical tunes performed by a 46-piece orchestra, rock 'n' roll violinist David Garrett and singer Katherine Jenkins. There were tons of fiery explosions, which underscored the fact that the heat was on in week 4 since only five points separated the front-runner from the bottom dweller after last week's scores.

Overall, the night was mostly filled with highs, as Romeo, Petra Nemcova, Hines Ward and Chris Jericho each brought the house down with their respective paso dobles. Good or bad, that dance is always memorable. (Love or hate her, Kate Gosselin's season 10 paso is definitely the only dance of hers anyone remembers.)

Also proving they're in it to win it were Chelsea Kane and Ralph Macchio. While Chelsea lost me last week with her self-indulgent dance, she won me back this time around with her mesmerizing Harry Potter-themed Viennese waltz, which landed her at the top of the leaderboard for the first time. Meanwhile, Ralph proved consistently strong with his romantic Romeo and Juliet-themed waltz, which put him in second place.

Winning the Sour Grapes Award for the night was Kendra Wilkinson, who scowled and pouted her way through the proceedings. It was almost as if she was trying to be so unlikeable that she'd ensure she'd be the one kicked off this week. Her tantrum started during rehearsals, when she complained about the fact she was expected to be "proper" and "ladylike" during her Viennese waltz.

On the dance floor she was decent, but had a few missteps, and she knew it. After stomping her way up to the judges' booth like a bratty kid, she talked back as they gave their critiques. When Bruno Tonioli pointed out some "technical issues," she snapped that she needed "more than four days' practice" to learn the dance. (Presumably, everyone else rehearsed for the same amount of time, Kendra.)

She stepped up the nastiness when Carrie Ann Inaba quipped that she was "afraid of elegance," flippantly replying: "I just don't care about it." Not surprisingly, she garnered the lowest scores of the night (three sixes), and it's likely her mouthiness will get her in trouble come elimination night.

Also potentially in trouble is Sugar Ray Leonard, who, let's be honest, just can't dance. Yet the judges gave him sevens across the board for some reason. Just because you wear a big smile while you stink up the dance floor doesn't mean you did a good job. (Sorry, it had to be said!)

And then there was Kirstie ... whose waltz started off fine, if not a little boring. She made it about a quarter of the way through before she wound up fumbling with her shoe as she sat on the floor after Maks elegantly spun her around. Apparently, as she spun, her foot dragged on the floor and knocked her shoe off. But, like she did last week, she got her act together, got back up and finished strong.

Despite the mishap, which would have probably garnered any other contestant low scores, the judges only praised her for overcoming the situation. In the end, she pulled two sevens and an eight -- yes, an eight! -- out of her magic hat.

Seriously, anyone else would have landed in the bottom for such a disastrous glitch. But somehow, yet again, she came out smelling like a rose. And, honestly, I'm not complaining, because I really want her to stick around for a while. But the other contestants must be getting ticked because not only is she nabbing high scores, but she's also stealing the spotlight.

If there is a 'Dancing' god, Kendra and Sugar Ray will land in the bottom three when the results come in. What I can't decide is whether Kirstie will fill the remaining empty spot. Did viewers feel for her and get out the vote, or are her antics wearing thin?

So, help me decide ... will Kirstie get the boot this week or will she be safe once again?

'Dancing With the Stars' airs Mondays at 8PM ET and Tuesdays at 9PM ET on ABC.

Kirstie, has to go, and I mean out of there. God Bless you Max. Hope you don't hurt your back, carting her around the floor. I would never even step outside if I looked like that. And to think she will go on tv. Poor girl..

I think your comments are unkind, Yes I suppose she could have created this weeks scene, but doubtful that the one that her partner had last week was her fault.. I say you are not being fair, If this was all accidental Shame on you.. if it wasn't accidental I say shame on her. But I think she gave it a good shot no matter what. I hope she stays on another week accident free.

Kendra needs to go. She is a spoiled brat that is used to getting her own way. She must have thought that her body would garner her first place and the mirror ball. Her attitude will be her down fall.

I think Kirstie is a good dancer, better than Sugar Ray and Kendra should be the next to go , i do not like watching her dance. It will be between Ralph and Chelsie. And remember, it is the people voting not the judges so pick up the phone and vote for your fav's.

I can't blame Kendra! The judges always put her down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She is a good dancer, (I was a dancing teacher) if the judges would give her a chance...it is like it always is, when the judges LIKE someone good or bad, they baby them.....if Kendra is taken off I won't watch, unless someone I like comes on, which is unlikely...
