'The Office': Mindy Kaling Reveals Will Arnett, Ray Romano Character Names
Mindy Kaling, the multitasking star of 'The Office' who also writes and produces the show, revealed a little more information on the highly anticipated guest stars who plan to drop by the Dunder Mifflin Scranton branch later this season."Naming new characters is one of the most fun times in a writers room, as @KenTremendous [former 'Office' writer/'Parks and Recreation' co-creator Michel Schur] can attest. Takes a tiny, silly part of the brain!" she Tweeted.
Lucky for us, Kaling was given permission by none other than 'Office' showrunner Paul Lieberstein to let us all in on that fun process. She wrote, "I've been authorized by Paul Lieberstein (my boss/Toby (weird, right?)) to reveal all the guest stars glorious and ridiculous names today!"
So, what will stars like Will Arnett and Ray Romano be known as in the 'Office' universe?
"William Arnett plays 'Fred Henry', Raymond Romano plays 'Merv Bronte', and James Spader plays 'Robert California'. These are real, guys. ... Catherine 'The Great' Tate is Nellie Bertrum. (Again, real.)"
And how did the names come about? For Romano's character, it was a joint affair between Kaling and writer Danny Chun. "I pitched 'Bronte' as a last name and @dannychun pitched 'Merv'. It's one of our greatest collaborations."
The first big-name guest star, Will Ferrell, is introduced this Thursday. His name? Deangelo Vickers.
Tell us: What do you think of the new characters' names? What would you have called them?
