Ricky Gervais Is the Only Celebrity David Letterman Can Stand Being Near (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Apr 13th 2011 2:57AM
Ricky Gervais, 'Late Show with David Letterman'There is only one reason David Letterman had Ricky Gervais on 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS) tonight. It was his birthday and according to Gervais, "It's quite obvious that I am your favorite guest."

Letterman took the sentiment a step further, saying, "In all of show business, you're really the only one I can stand being near."

Gervais then reminisced about his first time on 'Late Show.' "It was the first big American show I've done and it was a short while after my dad died," he said. "And so you sort of became a second father to me."

Letterman was touched, but suspicious of the sentiment. Surely Gervais wasn't simply being sincere.

"With that being said, could you lend me some money?" Gervais quipped. And there it is.

David Letterman is no Johnny Carson, but David is a perfectionist at making fun of other people. CBS should read all these comments, all these comments cant be all wrong. Give a young man a chance at this job, an you may get another Johnny Carson. This jerk you got in there now is the rude of all evil. Yes David Im from indianapolis.

The world is divided many ways-Givers/ Takers, doglovers/catlovers, Leno/letterman. The brainless love Leno-the brains are Letterman devotees. We know who the smart p[eople are- Carsom snubbed alot of people. On stage , he was charming and funny. Offstage, not so much.

Happy Birthday Dave! I'm glad so many took your comment so seriously. Just shows how humnorless our society's become. I have feeling Rick needs the work-so you did a nice thing.

Hey folks, got a NASTY reply from a "DAVID", on the comment made to get the show off the air. Only one that DAVID responded to. Think I must have hit a NERVE, very close to the Letterman camp!

Letterman has outlived his usefulness. Go home Dave and pet the kitty.

All anyone has to know about Letteman, is that the late Johnny Carson passed the baton to Leno, snubbing Letterman. Even Johnny didn't like him. What else needs to be aaid?
