Emeril Lagasse Cooking Up New Series, Mike Tyson 'Breaking In' to Primetime, and More

by AOL TV Staff, posted Apr 14th 2011 12:45AM
Emeril Lagasse is back in the kitchen -- but he won't be dishing out the food. The Cooking Channel announced Wednesday a May 5 debut for 'The Originals With Emeril,' a new series that sees Lagasse hitting the road to pay tribute to iconic food establishments that have helped shape the country's culinary landscape. While the restaurant business is risky, challenging and faddish, and the life of a restaurant can sometimes be short, every city has cherished institutions that have stood the test of time. In each 30-minute episode, Lagasse will visit a new city and go behind-the-scenes at three historic eateries -- speaking with the chefs and customers to help reveal their fascinating stories.

The Cooking Channel also revealed several other new primetime offerings, including shows that look at street food, pastry chefs and Spanish foods: 'Eat St.' (premiering April 12), 'Unique Sweets' (April 24), 'From Spain With Love' (May 27) and 'Hook, Line & Dinner' (June 7).

The Food Network, meanwhile, also announced a slew of new series: Ashley Vicos' 'Have Cake, Will Travel,' premiering April 26, 'Best in Smoke' (May 8), 'Crave' (June 20) and, later this year, 'Heat Seekers,' 'Tough Cookies,' 'Chef Hunte' and 'Sugar High.' [The Hollywood Reporter]

• Get ready for Iron Mike. Ex-heavyweight boxing champ Mike Tyson will guest on the season finale of Fox's new series 'Breaking In,' where he'll play a new client of Contra Security when the team goes undercover at a high school to investigate a teen cyber bully. [Inside TV]

• Jane Kaczmarek will guest on FX's new comedy series 'Wilfred.' The sitcom stars Elijah Wood as a suicidal young man who gets advice from his neighbor's dog, who he sees as a crude Australian man in a dog suit. Kaczmarek will play a woman who gets into a car accident with Wood's character Ryan. [Inside TV]

• Need a Charlie Sheen fix? TV Guide Network is planning to air the Sheen-starring episodes of 'Spin City' beginning Monday, April 18, from 8 to 10PM ET and in a Sheen-marathon Saturdays from 11AM to 4PM. Sheen took over from Michael J. Fox in the show's fifth season. [TV Guide]

• 'One Tree Hill' is losing Chad Murray and Hilarie Burton. Though the pair were interested in returning for the series' next season, prior commitments prevented a deal being struck. Burton is a regular on 'White Collar' and Murray is making a movie in Louisiana. [TV Line]

I wouldn't know, he practically yells sometimes. I watch cooking shows to get cooking tips, not to see or hear Patti LaBelle or Sammy Hagar.
