'Glee' Cast to Cover Rebecca Black's 'Friday'
The cast of 'Glee' will be having "fun, fun, fun, fun" pretty soon. Confused? Well, it was bound to happen: The cast of 'Glee' will reportedly cover Rebecca Black's YouTube sensation 'Friday.'According to Vulture, the song will get the 'Glee' treatment from cast members Kevin McHale, Chord Overstreet and Mark Salling.
This isn't the first time 'Glee' has covered an uber-popular song. They have previously performed Cee Lo Green's 'Forget You,' a number of Lady Gaga's hits, and later this season 'Born This Way' guest star Gwyneth Paltrow will sing Adele's 'Turning Tables.'
The one difference? Those songs are by actual recording artists; 'Friday' is by a 13-year-old girl.
Black's 'Friday' video has been watched more than 100 million times. The subject of countless parody videos and national media attention, the song catapulted 13-year-old Black into a new stratosphere of Internet celebrity.
Is 'Glee' too late in jumping on the 'Friday' bandwagon? Should it be jumping on the 'Friday' train at all? Viral videos have a shelf-life of a week or two before they become stale, so it seems strange that a TV show with a long lead time would take such a risk.
So, what's jumping the shark here: 'Glee' or 'Friday'?
