Condoleezza Rice to Guest Star on '30 Rock'

by Chris Harnick, posted Apr 15th 2011 2:20PM
Condoleezza RiceThis could be awkward ... awkwardly hilarious. Condoleezza Rice, former secretary of state under the Bush administration and ex-lover of the fictional Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin), will guest star on an upcoming episode of NBC's '30 Rock.'

'30 Rock' creator and star Tina Fey dropped the casting news at a book signing, according to the Washington Post.

The fictional relationship between Rice and Jack Donaghy began in the season 1 episode titled 'The Break Up.'

During the episode, Jack keeps his relationship a secret from the other characters, but becomes upset when he sees Rice with Vladimir Putin. They eventually break up.

Fey and the '30 Rock' team previously approached Bill Clinton about appearing in the landmark 100th episode, but the request was turned down by his camp.

A Clinton representative told the New York Post, "The request was made and immediately denied without asking him."

In other political figure TV news, Michelle Obama will appear on the 'Gayle King Show' on April 19, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Tell us: Do you think Condoleezza Rice will be funny on '30 Rock'?

Shouldn't she be atoning for her sins somewhere for the rest of her life? I expect that she may have a ephipany and write a book about the vilest administration ever.

30 Rock is a very funny show. Whether Condi will be funny or not may be moot. The previous story line of Jack's love affair with her and now, her appearance should be entertaining. Regardless of her politics. Edie Falco palyed a Democratic Senator who got it on with Jack, and it was pretty funny. Give it a watch.

Didn't Steve Earle write a song about Ms. Rice? I seem to remember "Condi, Condi"

wish she would run for President, then they couldn't say conservatives are racist and sexist because they would vote for her

Who wants to see any of these right wing has-beens? Don't watch 30 Rock and certainly won't now

I'm a Condi Rice fan, and she's probably running for something (would make sense the way things are going for Barry) ... but she couldn't be funny if her life depended on it.

Of course she'll be funny! I've seen Condi Rice in other settings and she has a great sense of humor, and one can't doubt that the writing will be excellent. Should be a fun evening for all!

I appreciate her need to make a buck, but to work for GE, the devil incarnate?
