Podcast Party: Talking 'Game of Thrones' With Top 'Thrones' Bloggers

by Maureen Ryan, posted Apr 15th 2011 1:00PM
I guested 'Supernatural' and 'Chuck' podcasts this week (more on that below) and, speaking of guests, for this week's Talking TV with Ryan and Ryan podcast we recruited some from all over the realm. We even called in some reinforcements from across the sea.

In anticipation of the debut of 'Game of Thrones' on Sunday, Ryan McGee and I talked about the HBO drama for the entire length of the podcast, and to help introduce listeners to the world of the show, we recruited some top 'Thrones' bloggers.

Linda Antonsson and Elio M. Garcia run a comprehensive site called Westeros, which has everything you'd want to know about the fictional world author George R.R. Martin created in his 'Song of Ice and Fire' novels. ('Game of Thrones' is based on the first book in that series.) Our other guest, Phil Bicking, hails from Winter Is Coming, a fan site that has become a must-read compilation of news, analysis and interviews relating to the HBO show.

We talk 'Game of Thrones' for the entire 53 minutes, but don't fret -- we don't give away spoilers. We did divide the podcast into two parts, however. The first half is a general talk about the 'Song of Ice and Fire' fandom and how easy or difficult Martin's fictional world might be for newbies to negotiate; in the second half, we talk in general ways about our impressions of the six episodes that HBO sent to the media.

Our hearty thanks to Elio, Linda and Phil for stopping by to chat with us!

By the way, my review of 'GoT' is here and an interview with Martin is here. Ryan's review of 'Game of Thrones' is up at his site as well.

Be sure to check out Westeros's news page and Winter Is Coming for links to all the pieces about the show that are coming out this week. All of TV Squad's ongoing coverage of the show can be found here.

It's been a busy week on the podcast front: I was invited back to talk 'Supernatural' with Tina Charles and Wendy Hembrock on the Tuning In to Sci-Fi podcast earlier in the week. The three of us have been periodically chatting about the CW show during season 6, and this is this is the third edition of 'The Road So Far' podcast. It may help Winchester fans fill up the hours until the Hellatus is finally over on Friday night.

If you're a fan of 'Chuck,' check out Chuck Versus the Podcast, one of the best Bartowski-related sites out there. I had a lot of fun guesting on that podcast earlier in the week as well, and that discussion of all things 'Chuck' is here.

Regarding the Talking TV podcast, don't forget you can subscribe to it on iTunes, or you can listen to or grab the mp3 file from this site.

This week's podcast is also available here, as are full archives of every 'Talking TV' podcast. The entire 'Talking TV' archives are also available on iTunes as well.

Many thanks for listening!
