For several years, 'Family Ties' was among the top-rated shows on television, and its enduring popularity made it a staple of syndication for years after it went off the air. At the '2011 TV Land Awards' (Sun., 9PM ET on TV Land), Ben Stiller presented the cast of this iconic show with the Fan Favorite Award.Michael Gross talked about the years 'Family Ties' followed 'The Cosby Show' on Thursday nights as a one-two ratings punch. "It truly was Must-See-TV in those days," he said. "I appreciate the love that still extends to this cast."
"It was the seven sweetest years of my life," Meredith Baxter said of her time on the show. "There was a lot of love and respect among us -- and I think that's what everyone seemed to see on the screen when they watched the show."
"And although we didn't all come out as 'straight' as apparently 'The Facts of Life' cast," the openly gay Baxter said, referencing a bizarre line by Charlotte Rae earlier in the night, "We're doing pretty well."
Tracy Pollan, who played Michael J. Fox's girlfriend Ellen Reed and subsequently married the actor, thanked the show's creator for "casting me the best husband I could ever dream of."
"I want to thank the fans for giving me my life, my career and my wife, and just a great experience," said Fox, who truly can credit his family and his success to this one source. "Looking back on it all these years later, we know we didn't miss anything ... and the fact that we can still enjoy it 30 years later is just a blessing that we can't thank you enough for."
