'The Facts of Life' Cast Reunites on 'TV Land Awards 2011' (VIDEO)

'The Facts of Life' cast on '2011 TV Land Awards''The Facts of Life' ran for nine seasons, and managed to thrive and find success through multiple cast shake-ups and a complete overhaul of its premise. That was thanks to the charm and delight of its central cast, and it was these women who were celebrated on the '2011 TV Land Awards' (Sun., 9PM ET on TV Land) with the Pop Culture Award.

The show touched our hearts and even broke ground with many of its story lines. Geri Jewell became the first person with cerebral palsy to have a regular role on prime-time television, and she spoke of how the show was a turning point for her.

"When I was a kid, I was made fun of a lot and ridiculed," she said. "I wanted to be an actress, I wanted to be a comedienne. And they cast me in this wonderful show, 'Facts of Life,' and it was the first time in my life that kids weren't afraid of me when they saw me, but they wanted my autograph."

Even after all these years, Nancy McKeon spoke of fans still approaching the girls with kind words. It's no wonder, as they all look almost exactly the same as they did during their time on the show more than two decades ago.

Kim Fields was 9 years old when the show began, and while it can be difficult to grow up in the national spotlight, she cherished her time on the show. "To grow up in front of all of you, but next to this group of people, and to be treated as an equal is spectacular," she said.

Charlotte Rae, at 84 years old, had probably the strangest quote of the night when she said, "I tell you, I'm so proud of my girls. They all turned out to be straight! Straight!"

For one thing, Jewell is openly gay, but we think Rae meant straight as in their character, rather than their sexual orientation. It's just that the meaning of the term is now more commonly associated with the latter.

The line did set Meredith Baxter up for a nice comeback later in the night.
