'Cougar Town' Moment: A Radio Ad for Penny Can (VIDEO)

'Cougar Town''Cougar Town' is back, and as Mo Ryan said in her review, it's picking up where it left off when it in February, with the exploits of the Cul de Sac Crew being just as funny as ever. Yes, there was some seriousness in the mix -- mainly with the story of Jules trying not to meddle with her son Travis's desire to ask his girlfriend to marry him -- but general goofiness is usually what people remember the most from any particular episode.

Take Penny Can ... or, rather: Penny Can! Who says that Bobby Cobb isn't an innovator? Toss a penny into a paint can from a distance and make up your own rules as you go along. The "in and out" rule we found out about this week was one of their better ones, mainly because we got to see Courteney Cox with a Magic Marker mustache.

Anyway, it's a fun game. And, believe it or not, it's marketable. Yes, it's an old paint can with a label on it, and you have to supply your own pennies (no nickels allowed), but I'd buy one after hearing the radio ad he and Laurie created for it.

Bobby needed money, so why not sell the Penny Can? Andy had faith in him, but then again Andy is in bromance love with Bobby. Laurie had enough faith in him to voice the great radio ad with the real phone number: 855-PENNYCAN. Gotta love the instructions Laurie gives in the ad:

"Hold for an operator, then ask for Carol. Say you're ordering Penny Can, and not any weight loss products or sexual aids, and she'll contact us with your order. It's just that simple!"

Laurie mouthing the words to her voice over while listening to the ad was the clincher for me, because Busy Philipps really gets into it, with shoulder wags, hand movements, and big smiles. Laurie wants Penny Can to succeed as much as anything else, not just because she likes Bobby, but because it's a damn fun game.

The slogan: "Ask for Carol, no sex stuff... Penny Can!"

Of course, the first call was from the show's dark cloud, Ellie. "Horrible!" Hey, it took them well over an hour to make it! But Bobby gets the last laugh with help from the reluctant Grayson. Put coins, tossing, and alcohol together, and you've got yourself a sales bonanza. It's like quarters, only with a smaller coin and a bigger target.

Did any of you folks call the number last night? If so, who did you end up talking to? And did you order a Penny Can? Let me know in the comments.

'Cougar Town' airs Wednesdays at 9:30PM ET on ABC.

I totally called in last night but by the time I did it was just a message telling me that Bobby Cobb's voicemail was full. Did I spend $20 on an authentic Penny Can? Why yes, yes I did. Now I just need to get a black marker and some pennies.
