James Durbin Takes Muse Up an Octave and Earns Rave Reviews on 'American Idol' (VIDEO)
James Durbin certainly put on a spectacle when he decided to tackle Muse's 'Uprising' on this week's 'American Idol' (Wed., 8PM ET on FOX). He entered the stage with a drum line in full costume sporting a militarized look of his own.Steven Tyler, in fact, jokingly accused Durbin of taking the outfit from his own closet. "You'd be surprised how expensive it costs to look this cheap," he quipped.
With a much harder rock flare than the original, Durbin also took a chance on a much higher octave during the closing chorus. As Randy Jackson revealed, this was a challenge presented to Durbin by Muse lead singer Matthew Bellamy.
'American Idol' airs Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8PM ET on FOX.
Jackson said Durbin "slayed it," while Jennifer Lopez made the early prediction that it would be "theatrically the best performance of the night." Durbin performed second, so it was an ambitious claim.
Do you think he lived up to the hype? What did you think of his take on Muse?
