Katie Couric Heading to ABC?

by Chris Harnick, posted Apr 26th 2011 1:30PM
Katie CouricKatie Couric's departure from 'CBS Evening News' is expected within a week, but what will she do after she leaves the news desk? According to TV Guide Magazine, ABC is pushing to land the ex-'Today' show anchor.

While there's still an offer for Couric to remain at CBS with a spot on '60 Minutes' and a talk show, insiders told the magazine ABC is offering Couric lots of exposure on their network. ABC wants her talk show and has reportedly offered Couric a role in the news coverage of the 2012 presidential election and primetime specials.

Couric's talks with CBS have been ongoing, but as they grow longer its looking like a deal won't be made. '60 Minutes' correspondent Scott Pelley will replace Couric on 'CBS Evening News,' where she has been the anchor since 2006. The move will be officially announced after the CBS Royal Wedding coverage later this week.

NBC reportedly had shown interest in bringing Couric back to the fold, but ultimately pulled out.

According to TV Guide, ABC's interest in Couric may be tied to the loss of 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' and the impact it will have on its owned and operated TV stations. With Couric comes a trusted name and face.

"[ABC is] not going to go with those new daytime shows after killing their soaps and losing Oprah, leading into the evening news and prime time," a source told TV Guide.
