Former 'Idol' Contestant Frenchie Davis Tries to Win Us Back on 'The Voice' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Apr 27th 2011 2:39AM
Frenchie Davis, 'The Voice'Frenchie Davis stole the hearts of America early in the second season of 'American Idol,' but later found herself disqualified for topless photos she had taken earlier in her career. That didn't sit well with 'Idol's family-friendly image. Now, eight years later Davis returned to a new singing competition series, 'The Voice' (Tue., 9PM ET on NBC).

In this premiere episode, it's the Blind Auditions. This means the coaches can't see who's singing and have to decide whether or not they want to work with them toward winning the show based on their voice alone.

This almost proved a double-edged sword for Davis as being recognized might have helped her get more support from the coaches.

We weren't sold on her selection of Katy Perry's 'I Kissed a Girl.' With the power of Davis' voice, this was a poor showcase of her ability, and as the song lingered and none of the judges were picking her, at which point their chairs would turn around revealing who was singing, you could see that Davis was worried.

But then euphoria as Christina Aguilera hit her button late in the song. Aguilera was the only one to choose Davis, but as soon as all the chairs were turned, it was Cee Lo Green who recognized her.

"What up, Frenchie?" he said with a smile.

"You know who I am?" she replied, perhaps even more shocked and overjoyed than having been chosen by Aguilera to continue in the competition.

"At first I felt like it was a little bit shaky, but you really found your way as it continued, and I liked it," Aguilera said.

This premiere episode saw each of the coaches pick their first three contestants. What did you think of the newest entry in the singing competition category?

Boy, this show is a real loser! What a boring program! Why don't they just wear masks like the old "What's my Line.?"
Who thought up this shoddy, poorly scripted monstrosity? Who thought this would have mass appeal?
This Turkey is doomed, get it, doomed, watching my Oleander bloom is far more exciting and getting positive results..Yuk, Ick, Get outta here!

I really was pleasantly surprised. Thank God we don't have to sit through terrible singers on this new show. The "coaches" seemed genuinely interested in their choices. I liked it - it was better than sitting through an hour of MOB WIVES!!! (which I will not do again)
Can't wait for next week and for those who have really ridiculous, negative statements about the show or the celebrities or even the people trying out - do yourself a favor and don't comment . You sound like morons. Theres negatives and then theres your crap.

The first episode of Voice I thought was better than AI. All of the singers were better, even the ones that weren't chosen.

Yes I liked Frenchie always did .. I thought that was not good when they axed her on AI.. I am glad The Voice is here to give her a chance to show ppl she can sing... and I am glad they finally made a show where they are not voted on how they look or wear and they r just judged on their voice and how they can sing that is great... hopefully frenchie u be there all the way....

I wish people would stop complaining. If you dont like the show dont watch it. If one has a gift this show allows them to pursue it without all the stereotypical BS in the industry. Carson daily is great and the judges come from all styles of music. Get the *&^ over it! Damn just let those that like it comment on the positive and the naysayers should become music moguls or executives with the money or backing to start their own show and then they can say what they want. Stop complaining and say what you can do better and put your money where your mouth is..., If you got it like that...
