Kate Hudson didn't necessarily plan on making an engagement announcement this morning on 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM on NBC), but when Matt Lauer noticed her blinding engagement ring, the announcement sorted itself out. Lauer asked to see her hand, and looking at the ring, asked if it was new. Hudson said yes, confirming that she is engaged to Matthew Bellamy, the front man of the band Muse.

"I kind of felt like the announcing thing feels so silly, you know what I mean?" said Hudson. "I was just waiting for somebody to notice."

The engagement happened a week ago, and Hudson declined to detail the proposal, other than to say it was "sweet." There is no official wedding date set yet, but the pair will have enough on their hands when Hudson delivers. Hopefully we can avoid a wedding countdown.
