Could Sony TV Rescue 'All My Children' and 'One Life to Live'?
The latest soap-related Internet rumors say that Sony Television is interested in buying axed ABC sudsers 'All My Children' and 'One Life to Live' and will find new homes for them both domestically and internationally. Sony certainly knows soaps -- the company partially owns both 'The Young and the Restless' and 'Days of Our Lives.'But is there any truth to buzz? Actors from the two ABC soaps began posting cryptic messages on their Facebook pages saying that they were hearing some "interesting" things, presumably related to the fates of their shows, earlier in the week.
The speculation hasn't gone viral yet, but it's appeared on some message boards, including ones at Soap Central.Fans shouldn't get too excited about this, however. It's not uncommon for rumors to start about soaps finding new homes after they've been axed. And, sadly, it's rare (but not totally unprecedented) for those rumors to turn into fact.
'Passions,' which ran on NBC from July 1999 to September 2007, was picked up by DirecTV after it left the peacock network. The show's second life, however, was relatively short-lived. DirecTV aired the 'Passions' finale in August 2008. CBS canceled 'Search for Tomorrow' in 1982. NBC gave it a new home, but then called the 'Search' off in late 1986.
A lot of people at ABC, Sony and other places would have to sign off on the deal for it to happen if the rumors have, in fact, any validity to them. But there's always hope. Stay tuned.
