Adam Levine Tells 'The Voice' Contestant, 'I Thought You Were a Chick' (VIDEO)

Adam Levine, 'The Voice'It's the second week of Blind Auditions on 'The Voice' (Tue., 9PM ET on NBC), and Adam Levine found himself on the opposite end of an awkward situation he's been in before as lead singer of Maroon 5. When he hit his button, turning his chair and revealing the singer for the first time, he looked both stunned and confused for the longest time.

After the performer was finished, Levine attempted to explain himself. "I have so much to talk to you about," he started. "It's gonna get a little weird for a second before it gets normal again. Don't be insulted by this. I thought you were a chick."

Levine then revealed he had people think the same thing about the way he sings, which should work for the pairing, as Levine can relate to what this guy is going through as a performer in some ways.

"I need a woman for my team and sadly you have a penis," Levine said bluntly. The poor guy on the stage really wasn't sure how to respond at this point. Agree with Levine? Be offended? More likely, just be glad to have been chosen and be able to laugh about it later.

"You guys are gonna make a great couple," Blake Shelton said about the pairing.

The 32 contestants are all good . But there are 3 or 4 that are amazing . I love the concept of this show where your looks or how old you are doesn't figure into it .

I do too! The contestants are absolutely fabulous and put American Idol contestants to shame! I love that the contestants are picked based solely on their voice and NOT how they look....VERY unique!

I really like this show....I enjoy the different personalities of the judges and like to hear what they have to say...the talent is awsome.

How as it awkward? Levine was merely stating the obvious: The dude did sound like a chick. And, Adam handled his explanation quite deftly. No feelings were hurt. "The Voice" is stacking up to be a very entertaining show. The contestants are vocally superior to those on American idol, and this is actually one of Idol's best seasons in terms of talent.
