On 'Good Morning America' (weekdays, 7AM ET on ABC), Jodie Foster defended Mel Gibson, her co-star in 'The Beaver.' Foster referred to Gibson as an "incredible friend" and said that his performance deserves to be seen despite his several highly-publicized rants."[Gibson is] an extraordinary actor and I don't think I've ever seen him give a performance like this that is so deep and so raw," Foster said, referring to Gibson's role in the dark comedy as a deeply troubled man who uses a beaver hand puppet as his sole form of communication.
When asked if Gibson's real-life meltdowns ever caused Foster, who also directed, to consider shelving the movie, she replied, "No. Never. I love this movie and I love him. This movie and his performance deserves to be seen. His problems, his behavior, he's the only person who can answer for that. But I certainly do know the man that I love is an incredible friend, an incredible talent, incredibly loyal."
