Tina Fey Hosts 'Saturday Night Live' (VIDEO)

by PopEater Staff, posted May 8th 2011 10:40AM
Kicking off what she dubbed 'the Mother's Day episode,' Tina Fey hosted 'Saturday Night Live' this weekend with a dose of her usual self-deprecation.

Making the most of her six-months' pregnant figure, the '30 Rock' star -- and former 'SNL' head writer -- brought out fellow expectant mom Maya Rudolph for a belly-bump greeting, and a song devoted to their soon-to-be-born children.

The soothing lullaby opened with lyrics such as "I cannot wait to know you," then quickly segued into a raunchy ode to procreation: "You are the proof that we've been doin' it....makin' super sexy heat...your mom and daddy been doin' it!" Mid-duet, the two even had a faux sonogram while each fetus -- Keenan Thompson and Kristen Wiig -- sang along in utero.

After the jump, check out a few of our favorite clips from Fey's hosting gig: her maternal, musical monologue, a sketch about a horrifying birthing class, and a parody of this week's Republican debate, which featured her famous Sarah Palin impression.

Every season is the "worst ever" until the next one. Fey is failing. 30 Rock simply wandered away to end the season and now this uneven episode. There was some humor on the show as the large-thighed spokesperson for cellphones still had her commercials. Yuck. Tuned in to see what I had been missing, Not much as it turns out

I thought it was a rough episode. I thought the ideas of the sketches were clever, but didn't think they were executed enough. I thought the Under The Sea sketch with Osama Bin Laden floating down there was very smart, but after the initial funny shock of seeing him with those Disney characters it didn't do much.

Same thing with the Presidential Republican nominee party debate. The setup was funny but didn't go anywhere. Plus I know that Darryl Hammond hasn't done Donald Trump in awhile but it was very very rough. It's like he completly forgot how to do the voice, they called him up to come in and he had to try to remember at the last second.

I don't know, I was expecting more from a Tina Fey episode. Again, very clever, just not overly funny.

I hadn't watched the show in months. After watching the deadening dull and laughless opening with OBL's last will, it will be even longer before I watch again.
