Daytime Emmy Nominations 2011: 'General Hospital' Leads the Pack

by Chris Harnick, posted May 11th 2011 10:05AM
Jonathan Jackson, Laura Wright'General Hospital' leads all soaps with 21 total Daytime Emmy nominations.

PBS leads ABC in total nominations, but ABC's 'General Hospital' -- its last remaining soap come January 2012, unless Katie Couric moves in -- leads the pack with 21 total nominations. Besides the Outstanding Drama Series nomination, stars Jonathan Jackson, Laura Wright, Maurice Benard, Nancy Lee Grahn, Jason Thompson, Chad Duell and Lexi Ainsworth all received nods from the Academy.

'The Young and the Restless' received 20 nominations, 'Sesame Street' grabbed 16, 'All My Children' got 13, and 'One Life to Live' trailed with 12. With the sting of cancellation still present, 'All My Children' picked up a Best Drama nomination, but no such luck for its star Susan Lucci.

Pat Sajak and Alex Trebek will received Lifetime Achievement Awards at the June 19 ceremony.

"In honoring Pat and Alex, we're honoring not only two of the great game shows throughout the history of television," Darryl Cohen, chairman of The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, said in a statement, "but two individuals whose talent and personality have given us an additional reason to tune in and watch."

The cast of Days of our Lives was at Nikki Beach Las Vegas this saturday! It was amazing. They had all these red carpet interviews with the casts from all the shows. Billy Miller and Adrianne Frantz and a bunch of stars were there. They have video of it at nikki beach las vegas's facebook!

How can ABC even consider canceling General Hospital for Katy Couric.?
She won't last!!
How about GH nighttime, weekly, The fans will still watch it even if it aired once a week.
Daytime dramas, soaps, are the only effective shows ABC airs.
Enough with reality and news and cooking. We want.no NEED,escape and fantasy to relax a little

I really enjoy Maurice Bernard and Carly and GH! I haver been watching General Hospital since Luke and Laura and am now 53 years old. Very disappointed that One Life to Live and All My Children is ending. Send emails to dander203@comcast.net. Sincerely, Denise Anderson-5-14-11

If katie couric replaces general hospital then i will have an extra hour a day to workout, shop, do chores or play games on computer because their is no way i'm going to watch another "talk" show of "real lives and real people". I live in the real world and when i'm looking for entertainment, i want fantasy!

why does the Academy always ignore Days of Our Lives? I'm glad AMC & OLTL( possibly GH) were cancelled. maybe now we will stand a chance. DOOL's used to clean up at the Soap Opera Digest awards. so much so the other soaps complained & they stopped doing the awards show.DOOL has always been more of a fan favorite than a critic favorite!

Actually you should check your facts Shanna because In the final 4 or 5 years that the Digest Awards were televised General Hospital actually swept the awards quite nicely including the favorite show award, DOOL fans were actually so jealous that they complained that GH must have been ballot stuffing, when in fact GH is actually just a more of a fan favorite (and critically acclaimed) than Days but nice try. I wouldn't count on GH being canceled either because it's had it's highest ratings in years and consistently scores high ratings in the advertising demographic, which is an area that DOOL stumbles sorely in. Not to mention that it is the best show on daytime. Wasn't DOOL only picked up through 2012 anyway? I wouldn't count on it being around much longer than GH regardless of whether or NOT GH is canceled in the near future.

Should be a short show. Not many soaps left.
