Truly, I believe that Pompeo's comments were NOT malicious; however, her comments were not merely naive or ignorant. There is a CONTEXT and a HISTORY to all things. We have HBCUs because we(blacks) weren't allowed to attend white colleges and universities. Even today, HBCUs educate the vast majority of black college educated men and women. So we don't need them any longer? Why, because the white colleges admit us now? Do we shut down, trash, or otherwise turn our back on OUR history, and OUR institutions that have served as a true lifeline to our people and community so well...for so long? The NAACP has a distinguished history, steeped in fighting discrimination in every segment of society--education, politics, economics, etc. If you let Pompeo tell the story HBCUs and the NAACP seek to separate people. I submit there is NO organization in the history of this great nation which done more--or as much--to eradicate discrimination and segregation in its myriad forms. Indeed, if one First examines the history and the context--i.e., before COMMENTING--it is clear such assertions/beliefs are not merely uninformed or uneducated, but MISinformed and MISeducated.

My daughter-in-law is white. My son is black. They have one mixed race child. The family is perfect as it is. My son and his wife are very much in love even after 22 years of marriage. I refuse to watch The View because Sheri seems to think that she has the right to be the spokesperson for my race. Her input is aways tainted with her racist views. It is time to move on. Live and let live in all relationships.

Ellen, I couldn't agree with you more!!!! Since God created us all equal, there's no need for "affermative action, NAACP, or Black Miss America!!!!. We have a black president and first lady, and I think this race and racist thing have long outlived it's usefullness. We have outstanding black actors and actresses, outstanding black atletes in every sport, and many black Heads of State and in our Goverment and all over the World. Let's try and live in peace and try and elect people on their merits and talent, and stop this color barrier! After all, do we have a WHITE ONLY Miss America? I think not!

Jill Scott's concern is toward that certain Black man who sees White beauty as the ideal beauty and ignores a Black woman. That implies that he was sort of brainwashed by tv, movies , etc. to seeing a White woman as beautiful and a Black woman as not. That is the essence of Jill Scott's concern about that. As far as the NAACP and Black colleges are concerned we need those pro-Black organizations that will educate African Americans about their history and origin and all that it entails. You can't dismiss the NAACP nor any Black college or organization that can educate African American's about their true origin and their history in regards to this country. Ellen Pompeo is speaking naively.

Alicia Thompson is living on another planet if she thinks that blacks are not assimilated into awards in the entertainment community. In fact it seems that all are created equally no matter what race or orientation. The past 5 years have proven this fact. It is totally out of line to say a "token" anything. Please keep in mind, Alicia, that you have to factor in population totals, too.

If there were organizations such as: White social workers, white nurses, white priests, nuns, etc, white people in this country would be crucified. But, we tolerate, without exeception, organizations such as Black Entertainment TV, Ebony Awards, NAACP Awards, Black Social Workers, Nuns, Priests, Engineers, ad nauseum. Befuddles me....Can't have integrated segregation....
