After Surprise Immunity Win, Blindside at Tribal Council on 'Survivor' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 12th 2011 1:13AM
Rob Mariano, 'Survivor: Redemption Island''Survivor: Redemption Island' (Wed., 8PM ET on CBS) ends with a two-hour finale this Sunday. Going into tonight's episode, there were still a whopping nine people in contention for the top prize, though four of them were on Redemption Island. From there, it was confirmed that only one stood a chance of returning to the game.

Rob Mariano has been in sole charge of this season of 'Survivor' since virtually Day One. He masterminded the massacre and total elimination of the Zapatera tribe, and has orchestrated the demise by blindside of every person who's gone home on Ometepe.

But this was arguably the biggest vote of the game. From here, the Final Four is determined. The only wild card element, that Rob continues to struggle with, is who Redemption Island sends back into the game. If they come back at Final Four, there's the chance of an alliance against Rob. Certainly, whoever comes back isn't going to be very happy with him.

Nevertheless, a decision was made this week to send Ashley to Redemption Island. Rob wanted to break up Ashley and Natalie because he knows all too well the power of a strong pair in the game. Ashley was his obvious target, but she messed that up by winning Immunity at the Challenge.

So, the obvious choice would be to get rid of Natalie at that point, right? Well, Ashley had presented her desire to get rid of Grant, as he could compete strongly on Redemption Island. If he came back, maybe he'd be less bitter.

Ralph lost this week at Redemption Island, leaving Mike and Matt still going strong, and Andrea winning her first bout. With Grant joining them, he stands a fair chance of winning. But is it a risky move? Will Ashley and Natalie team up? If Andrea comes back, they would be an easy threesome. Matt or Mike would also happily ally with the girls against Rob.

The problem is, that Natalie is staying very loyal to him, and Phillip seems convinced he can beat Rob in the Finals. We're not sure either of them would flip away from the Robfather at this point in the game.

Who do you think will win 'Survivor: Redemption Island'?
Andrea Boehlke [Redemption]15 (1.0%)
Grant Mattos [Redemption]64 (4.3%)
Matt Elrod [Redemption]261 (17.6%)
Mike Chiesl [Redemption]101 (6.8%)
Ashley Underwood44 (3.0%)
Natalie Tenerelli80 (5.4%)
Phillip Sheppard94 (6.3%)
Rob Mariano826 (55.6%)

I truly think Rob has played the game --as far as the game being outlasting every one else no matter what. There have only been a couple of times that people have been genuinely honest and flown under the radar through the whole game and won. I hate Phillp but i really think he may win if Rob takes him to the end as Rob has blind sided way too many people....

Why is Rob even back in the competition to start with? I was sick of him before his first run at it was over.

I can not stand Boston Rob. yeah he is good at planning things out but since day one he has acted like he owns the game and that he is going to win since he has been on it before. and i hate the fact that he gained all that trust and took advantage of it. I am rooting for matt all the way

Stupid, stupid naive sheep trusting this self-serving conniver. Stabbed his best bud in the back without fluttering an eyelash. It's a game, but he'll pay for this level of betrayal. His plan is to bring the hated Philip to the final because he thinks everyone will hate Philip so much they'll vote for him, but after this disgusting betrayal, they may all just vote for Philip out of spite. Rob keeps saying he's "there for his family" well so was everyone else - get a job instead of going on one reality show after the other hoping to win a million. They got rid of Russell early on because they find him despicable - well, Rob is in good company with him now.
