Kate Hudson Says Dad Kurt Russell Chose When to Enforce the Rules (VIDEO)

Kate Hudson, 'Jimmy Kimmel Live'Kate Hudson feels she's more like her father, Kurt Russell, as a stricter disciplinarian. But the story she told on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' (Weeknights, 12AM ET on ABC) made him out as more of a circumstantially strict parent. Sometimes the rules apply, but other times they don't.

When she was 15 or 16, Russell caught her watching 'The Exorcist' and he allowed it, praising the movie as "one of the best movies ever, ever made." But later, when she was watching 'Major League,' he couldn't have that. "It's Rated R," he told her. "Do you know how old you are?"

Of course, he may have allowed her to watch 'The Exorcist' at such a young age knowing that the experience of watching it while still so impressionable was far greater a punishment than anything he could think of.

Jimmy Kimmel, however, had a different theory. "If you have to leave your daughter with the devil or Charlie Sheen, I think you're going with the devil."

Wyatt Russell and Zachary and Emily Hudson are Kate's Half siblings and Bostson Russell is a Stepbrother

I believe Kurt Russell raised her so she considers him her father. Biology doesn't make someone a parent; love, time and guidance do. And I agree that she looks "off". She is one of those women that pregnancy doesn't agree with and just makes her look bloated and changes her looks for the worse. But, I wish her well.

Goldie and Hudson seperated when Kate was only 18 mos old. That's why see considers Kurt her dad. He's all she has ever known.

Perhaps Kate doesn't hate her father, but her biological father chose another family over his first biological children, but in reading articles of Kate & Oliver, they were raised in the same household with Kurt, Goldie, their stepbrother Boston Russell(son of Kurt Russell & Season Hubley) and stepbrother Wyatt Russell(son of Goldie and Kurt), and have maintained a relationship with their father and stepmother Cindy Williams and their stepbrother Zachary & stepsister Emily(children of Bill & Cindy). Goldie & Kurt gave the ultimate unconditional love of family to their children, and no doubt, that they are great with their grandchildren also!

I remember Goldie when she lived here in Maryland a long time ago. She went to school less than 10 miles down toward old silver spring. She was always laughing and having a good time. I'm Kurts age.

As for stepfathers... she did not marry Kurt and to my knowledge, the kids are still legally Hudson children. I don't think Hudson gave up parental rights, just allowed them to raise the kids. So in a court of law, they are not stepchildren at all.

What they decided to do for comfort and love has nothing to do with legalities.

And since they keep such a low profile, don't assume that her real father was not involved. There were rules in the house in which she lived, but she did and does have a father.

stop with the 'step-father' thing....he raised her!---he did the job!--he earned the title!---he's her Father!-period!

'blood' relationships' are interesting---but that's all they are!!

Bill Hudson married actress Cindy Williams(Laverne & Shirley)having had two children, Zachary & Emily together.
Kurt & Goldie did raise all the children, Kate, Oliver Hudson(Goldie & Bill's children), Boston Russell(Kurt & Season Hubley's son), and Wyatt Russell(Goldie & Kurt's son) in one household. Seems that the children did have ties with their biological parents also, but were raised by Kurt & Goldie. Seems a sense of family was important and instilled in the children by Kurt & Goldie and I do commend them for not being in the tabloids, instilling respect, love and family loyalties in their children. This is refreshing in terms of Hollywood and in the world it is today! Congratulations Goldie & Kurt!

Kate & Oliver(Rules of Engagement)Hudson are the stepchildren of Kurt Russell, biological children of Goldie Hawne, and they have a stepbrother(Goldie & Kurt's child). Don't know if Kurt or Goldie had more than the one son together? Whatever the case, you can see a bond and family closeness between all, which is very commendable in this society as it is today! I do commend both Kurt & Goldie for having a strong sense of family and extending those values to their children!

Kurt & Goldie never married....so Oliver & Kate are not Kurt's step children (legally). If he raised Kate, I can understand that he's like a father to her, but she *does* have a biological father that was in her life at some point. Why they don't get along, I don't know......their business. I'm just saying that while she recognizes Kurt as her dad, she also has another (biological) one.......

It's "takes a man to be a father(biological, common law or legal guardian)!" You have one mother and one father, but it's all in whom raises you, nutures you and shares responsibility for the child that is the true sense of the words, "MOM & DAD!" If a child recognizes a person as their parent, step or otherwise, then that is a true testament of the love and respect they've given that child! In this case, Legal or not, Kurt Russell is the stepfather to Kate & Oliver Hudson, as is Goldie Hawn the stepmother to Boston Russell, and both Kurt & Goldie has a child in common, Wyatt Russell!

Technically, Kurt Russell is her step father but he was the one that raised her along with her mom. Her biological father is Bill Hudson and she had very little contact with him through the years.. She considers Kurt her father or so the story goes.

Kurt Russell & Goldie Hawne didn't do so wrong when it came to raising the children. Goldie & Kurt are together forever, show respect of each other and love! It says alot when the stepchildren can call their stepparent mom or dad, and in this case, Kurt being dad! At least he and Goldie did try to instill good moral values and a sense of family in their children. You don't hear Goldie or Kurt in the tabloids, and their union has been rock solid, it would be devastating should they ever leave one another! Best Wishes Always to Kurt, Goldie & their family.
