'Survivor: Redemption Island' Season Finale: The Winner Is ... (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 16th 2011 1:42AM
Jeff Probst, 'Survivor: Redemption Island' finaleGoing into this three-hour finale extravaganza for 'Survivor: Redemption Island' (Sun., 8PM ET on CBS), one man has been running this game since Day One. "Boston Rob" Mariano single-handedly orchestrated the elimination of the opposing tribe and managed to keep his own alliance of six strong until the end.

At every turn, he had total control of the game, but toward the end it became more and more difficult to keep control. Ashley and Natalie have been considering their chances without the Rob-father, and there's still that element of Redemption Island, which has four people on the cusp of returning to the game.

In other words, more than a month of dominance may not amount to much. Tables can turn almost immediately. Eight people went into the finale. One person emerged the million dollar winner. Could "Boston Rob" be stopped?

For the second time, the person who returned from Redemption Island was the next person eliminated, making the whole experiment basically a wash. Once they got Andrea, who earned her way back into the game, re-eliminated, Rob stuck to his original plan and got the scheming Ashley eliminated.

It was down to Rob, former federal agent Phillip and 19-year old Natalie. Would the jury reward the brilliant game Rob played from Day One, or would sour grapes see someone less deserving take home the million-dollar prize?

Not only did the jury get it right and give Rob the top prize, he even won an extra $100,000 from viewers in the Sprint-sponsored fan favorite award. Do you think Rob deserved the win in his fourth time out there?

I thoroughly enjoyed watching Rob this season and am glad none of the boring players won. Rob is fun to watch. The only other players I liked were Andrea, Julie and Mike, but they were outplayed this time around. Maybe they'll come back one day. Survivor's ratings were higher this season, I noticed.

The game has changed in the 22 seasons, but one thing for sure has not, and that is the ability for one moron to dominate the even bigger morons puppets!. BORING! Get a clue, bring on some new faces, and retire these other loosers. What have you got to loose. Give the fans a chance to see something new. Not these same mieserable loosers. Unfortunately deception is always going to be a part of the strategy, but how about some fresh new liars. Okay, I have an idea for a new show, it's called "The Biggest Liar." And guess who would be auditioning? I agree with benkert6, I was bored and stopped watching as one could see where it was all going, like an awful rerun!

You should learn basic spelling before you call other people morons and losers. Get a clue.

I would like to know why CBS did not save themselves the time and money of producing a 4th season that Boston Rob starred on and just hand him the million and be done with it! How many times does a network have to give one guy to allow him to finally win Survivor? The dumbest comment of the night was Jeff Probst saying that, "In 22 seasons of Survivor, that was as close to a near perfect game as he had ever seen.." Are you kidding me? He ought to know how to play....he had been on three times before for gosh sakes! CBS...if there are not enough other people in our country for you to pick 16-18 new people to appear each season, it is time for you to dump this program and go back to producing something else!

If Phillip had not been such a hopeless jerk and Natalie hadn't been such a stupid little automaton,I would have liked to see one of them win.Too bad the only choise was smarmy Bostom rob.His presence made the whole season boring, because of his total controll of his team, there was zero strategy other then Robs.Of all the survivor episodes this was the least interesting..The nature of the game is lying, decieving and backstabbing, but shoot can you at least be a little exciting

Really enjoyed it when "nice" Rob said to the camera, "Now I have to decide which one of these three idiots to take with me". Grant sumnmed it all up: there comes a point, when even in a reality game where you're trying to win a million dollars, that only someone with a truly cunning, deceptive, evil heart could do what Rob did. Oh, he was "doing this for his family" as if the other players weren't, as if the other players' wives had already won a million dollars like his did and as if they themselves hadn't already won $300k from this show alone. Everyone knew this scumbag was going to win but what infuriated me was when he also won the $100k fan-favorite money. Matt should have won because when you really think about it, he played just as hard a mental game being on Redemption Island so long - and yet without being a jerk. They should make it a rule that the person who wins the million is ineligible for the other money, that it should go to the next highest vote getter. Between watching that insane Philip (how did this nutjob ever get a clearance?), gushy-Robby-crushy Natalie, the liar that won and the wonderful commercial which insuinuated that Woody from Toy Story is gay, I am never watching again. Oh, and Russell who swore he'd never be back, made it clear he probably will be. This is all the world needed, Professional "Survivor" players.

What do you mean Rob knows how to play? He came into the game the losingest player in survivor history! Why was he even there?
It was like putting an NFL football player on a Highschool team duh....gee.....oh wowie...and zowie.
It was so "produced" I'm over Survivor. I don't even like Allstars return reality shows let alone putting a pro in with a tribe of amatures.

Jeff Probst, what are you promoting, deception makes you a winner? Let's face the facts, by process of elimanation, Philip, becuase he was different & hostile, was not liked, so he did not get the votes. Natille, just out and out did not deserve to win anything, as she was just a puppet for the jerk that did win, and cuz no one admires stupid! And she was as stupid as you can get. Natilee, I sure hope for your sake you do not follow other men like you did with the jerk on the show. Get some help for yourself, as you are openning your "oh so trusting" self to be taken advantage of by men or people in general. Be careful, life is great, but the whole world and daily life is SURVIVOR! Make better choice, or well, you probably would not understand, why waste the time.
