'Survivor' Sprint Player of the Season and Surprise Proposal on Reunion Special (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 16th 2011 2:16AM
Rob Mariano & Matt Elrod, 'Survivor: Redemption Island'At the 'Survivor: Redemption Island' (Sun., 10PM ET on CBS) reunion special, there was more to get to than just the crowning of the season's winner. Once again, Sprint was on-hand to declare the fan-voted Player of the Season, along with the $100,000 prize that goes along with it.

Russell Hantz was quick to announce that he was a two-time winner of the award, which was his consolation prize for still never winning the game. But he was only out there eight days this season, so he didn't even come close.

In fact, according to Jeff Probst, it came down to only two contestants. One who masterminded the season from Day One, and the guy who spent most of the season dominating everyone else on Redemption Island.

In the end, Rob Mariano made it a clean sweep by taking the Sprint prize along with the million dollar prize as the Sole Survivor of 'Redemption Island.' But Rob didn't win everything on the night.

In a cute little exchange that was clearly scripted beforehand, Jeff helped David Murphy propose to a fellow 'Survivor' cast member. Didn't recognize Carolina Eastwood there in the audience? Well, that's okay. She was the first person eliminated from 'Survivor: Tocantins.' But it looks like she won something anyway, as she accepted his propsal.

Rob shouldn't have been eligible for the $100k. He and Russell have had tons of time to gain a fanbase... it was obviously going to be Rob since Russell went pre-merge.

I didn't vote, but I probably would have voted for Philip or Ralph. Found both of them hilarious..

Wish Matt would have won the 100,000. He really deserved it. That proposal was so awkward. I don't believe she wanted to accept. Just the way she looked HORRIFIED LOL.

Thank goodness Rob WON'T be back, was so easy to give up this show with the same people coming back like a plague. Boston Rob has a wife who won, he has to have made a lot of all the shows he has been on, and now he wins, well perhaps this is a good thing he won't be back again, and pray Russel does't could not take that again, but again the show is easy to give up

Ashley FOLLOWED Rob through the whole maze in the last challange, she didn't DO anything on her own. IF HE hadn't of been ahead of her, she would have been JUST AS LOST as Natalie was. AND NATALIE rode on Rob's coat tails TOO--not thinking much on her own, letting ROB decide FOR her what she was going to do. It isn't that I don't like Rob, but to be brought back 4 times--until he did win essentially, really should NOT be done. It spoils the whole idea of the program . That stupid David--proposing to that woman on national tv--how cheesy can you get? I am not so sure I think she really wanted to say yes, but did so in order to have him save face if she said no. Keep the show like it used to be....too much planning and mapping out spoils it. Matt should have gotten the extra $100,000.....what a rigged thing that was...... Clearly Russell is a sore loser. Phil's crazy act was just that, an act.

It was awkward...I don't know anything about Carolina, but from her few words...she seems like trailer trash...and obviously the Big Eared David has been hypnotized by her looks...which probably wont last. I really didn't think she was going to say "Yes". His statement "you drive me nuts"...should have told him to run away.

I think to be fair - if you win the million dollar prize, you should be ineligible to win the $100,000 Sprint prize. It's only fair!
