'The Oprah Winfrey Show' to Tape Star-Studded Farewell Edition Today

by Catherine Lawson, posted May 17th 2011 8:42AM
Oprah WinfreyAs 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' prepares to bow out, thousands of fans are expected to pack out Chicago's United Center today for the taping of a double episode, 'Surprise Oprah! A Farewell Spectacular'.

Although details of the guest lineup have been kept strictly under wraps, it's expected to be a star-studded affair. Executive producer Sheri Salata told the Associated Press that the celebrity response "has been a resounding 'yes'."

"Celebrities from film, television and music feel a deep appreciation for the support they have received from Oprah and the show over the years," Salata said. "Oprah will be very touched by that gratitude."

Salata added that "Oprah is in great spirits, energized and taking in every last bit of these final days. ... The producers are a little teary-eyed -- it's hard to say goodbye."

Free tickets for today's taping were distributed via lottery after more than 154,000 fans applied. It will air on May 23 and 24, before the last-ever show airs on May 25.

The 20,000-capacity Chicago Center is the home of The Chicago Bulls and, as a sign of Oprah's star power, an NBA game was been rescheduled to make way for today's taping. In 2009 she closed down Chicago's Michigan Avenue for the Season 24 premiere, which attracted a crowd of around 21,000.

Copywritten material: Oprah - The Last Queen of Soul
The other two before her were entertainers too, But Oprah has so much more going for her she's made that plain to you
She was just a simple unknown baby girl
Who grew up in America's southern country world
She never ever did complain just did all she had to do
But never ever dare suspected God had a plan and it envisioned you
Yes you were not hostile but you indeed knew what to do
To smile and make America fall deep in love with you
You shop in France
Speak of Romance
But you still make it through
You are the last Queen of Soul and that's nothing but the truth
Some of us have watched you growing up in early days of our youth
We wish we had all that you;ve got so we can buy some fancy brand new shoes
Or own a condo in New York and travel all around the world
God showed his face, dispensed his grace to just a little Black girl
And it's clear that you've got exactly what it takes
And don't put on too much airs and don't act lie a fake
Cause you just don't have Sistas' but others love you too
Crossed color barriers around the world, they don't know what to do
So Queen of Soul
When You Grow Old
What's Left For You To Do?
While I must confess, I'll give my Best
But I'll be watching You!
You still have so very much left that's there for you to give
Grow old with grace on your side and a long life you will live
Cause God placed a calling on your life and I know you know it's true
Now tell me Oprah think about that what's next in store for you?

I wrote you so many times but all of the topics I wanted to discuss never made your show. I guess I just wasn't famous and my situations or topics, like rape and cancer of the blood did not matter to you. You never discussed my topics but good luck anyway. I enjoyed most of your shows but I wanted you to talk about cancer of the blood (acute myleod leukemia and I wanted to talk about my mother but my story as always rejected by your producers).
