Talking TV Podcast Takes On 'HIMYM,' 'Chuck,' 'Smallville,' 'Good Wife' and Upfronts

It's been a busy week in TV land, so it may not surprise you to learn that we recorded two, count 'em, two Talking TV with Ryan and Ryan podcasts on Tuesday.

In the first one, Ryan McGee and I take on the season finales for 'Chuck' (which I wrote about here), 'How I Met Your Mother' and 'The Good Wife' (which I wrote about here). We also discussed the series finale of 'Smallville.'

In the second podcast, we discussed some good and bad trends emerging from Upfronts Week, which is when the broadcast networks announce what they'll be airing in the fall and offer clips from many of their new shows.

I don't have running times for you, but I can say that in the finales podcast, we talk about 'Smallville' first, followed by 'The Good Wife,' 'HIMYM' and 'Chuck.' There also aren't running times for the Upfronts podcast, given that it's a freeform discussions of the kinds of shows we'll be seeing next fall.

By the way, I guested recently on Lou Sytsma's ODONTV podcast, and we had fun talking about everything from 'Justified' to 'Supernatural' to 'Chuck' and 'Breaking Bad,' 'Mad Men,' 'Farscape,' 'Game of Thrones,' 'Fringe' and Stephen King's 'The Dark Tower' book series. You can find that podcast here.

Don't forget that you can subscribe to the Talking TV podcast on iTunes. This week's finales podcast is also available here and the Upfronts podcast is here. Full archives of every 'Talking TV' podcast are available as well. The entire 'Talking TV' archives are also available on iTunes as well. Our RSS feed is here.

The podcast will be back next week, albeit later in the week because I'll be traveling for the next several days. By the way, I'm taking Thursday and Friday off, but thanks to the magic of technology, my reviews of the 'Parks and Recreation' and 'Supernatural' season finales will post on Thursday and Friday, respectively.

Really enjoyed the upfronts podcast!

But just watched the Awake trailer on youtube...i don't see why that premise couldn't work as a season of television (or more) - I mean Fringe managed to keep two realities separate for a whole season! And I did kinda love Laura Allen on Terriers...

Loved the finales podcast -- and you've both finally crystalised what really bugs me about 'Smallville' -- it's 'Glee' or 'True Blood' for comic book geeks. Obviously, a lot of people begged to differ over the years, but I quickly came to feel like I was watching four or five different (and not very good) shows being shoved through a woodchipper, Fargo-style, and sprayed over a wall to see what stuck.
