Ben Stein Gives Terrible And Ridiculous Defense For Dominique Strauss-Kahn (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 20th 2011 4:53AM
'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart'Dominique Strauss-Kahn is going to need a good legal defense for the case against him. But, as evidenced on 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central), Ben Stein should probably not be a part of it.

Kahn was a front-runner for the French Presidency until he allegedly attacked and sexually assaulted a maid in a hotel. Obviously, he's innocent until proven guilty, and Stein had just the kind of ridiculous support he needed.

On the issue of Strauss-Kahn forcing the maid to perform sexual acts with him, Stein wrote in a statement, "How? Did he have a gun? Did he have a knife? He's a short fat old man." Then, he asked if anyone could list any economists who'd committed violent sex crimes.

This defense collapses twofold. First, it doesn't matter what other economists do, or don't do. Second, Jon Stewart was able to list three just for starters, including one who committed almost the exact same violent sex crime.

Ben Stein has made a career out of being an egghead, but he certainly didn't come across as smart in this statement. It probably would have been better if he'd just stayed out of it altogether.

Stewart's got it made in the shade. It must be nice hiding behind satire when convenient picking people apart to support his own agenda then whenever he wants to change face he can take on the role of a serious newsperson. When confronted his defense is "oh, I was just joshin', don't take me seriously". Then when he scores big points with his followers he can pound his chest like the serious news anchor. Will the real Jon Stewart please step forward!

Ben Stein is THE LEAST funny guy ever seen on TV. I switch channels whenever I see his face. The guy isn't an 'egg head' he's basically a witless dolt with NO sense of humor. I would NEVER buy anything he endorces.

What did you expect to an audience of sheeps? Clever sarcasm? It was. It would be offensive anyhow. Idiots are always offended, no matter what.

Ben Stein IS an economist..but he is better known for his dry and wry sense of humor. He was using sarcasm when he discussed Strauss-Kahn. And John Stewart (not his real name) is too smart not to know that. Ben Stein (his real name) does have probably a hundred IQ points on John, but its clear Stewart (not his real name) took this out of context.

Oh give me a break! Does comedy have to be so slapstick that the only thing people can understand is a pie in the face or someone falling down? I have to believe that Stein is just using his dry form of sarcasim to be funny and most people just don't get it. People in this country have become so used to the, in your face, Two and a half men form of "boobs, butts, and fart jokes that they can't see subtle humor in many forms. Stein is a rare combination of brilliant economist, political commentator, actor and humorist.
