Doomsday Predictor Harold Camping Plans to Watch the Apocalypse Unfold on TV

by Catherine Lawson, posted May 20th 2011 7:45AM
Harold CampingChristian broadcaster Harold Camping sparked worldwide controversy when he predicted that the Christian Rapture (a.k.a. Doomsday) will happen tomorrow, May 21, sparking off a chain of events that will lead to total global destruction a few months later, on Oct. 21.

While many skeptics are planning to mark the day by partying like there's no tomorrow, Reuters reports that the Family Radio President plans to watch the apocalypse unfold on TV.

Camping said that he's sure events will be sparked by a massive earthquake on May 21 -- "We know without any shadow of a doubt it is going to happen," he said.

Camping added that, "I'll probably try to be very near a TV or a radio ... I'll be interested in what's happening on the other side of the world as this begins."

We're not sure which channel he'll be tuning into, but Camping has been wrong once before. He previously predicted that the world would end in 1994, an error he blames on a mathematical miscalculation. He arrived at his current doomsday date based on his reading of 'The Bible' and a timeline dating back to ancient events including the Biblical flood survived by Noah.

Although setting an exact time and date for the apocalypse puts Camping outside the Christian mainstream, he has many supporters. His Family Radio has 66 U.S. stations and broadcasts in more than 30 languages through international affiliates. Camping's supporters have posted about 2,200 billboards around the U.S. about the coming apocalypse, and dozens of followers have driven across the country to spread the news.

If such an activity as his was done except under the flag of "religion" he'd be prosecuted as a fraudulent enterprise.

He is making so much money over this... What a great idea - get stupid religious people to donate all their cash for the greater good (who would have thought?) ha ha ha

Here in the UK we have our own version who showed up on Channel 5 a couple months ago. Not a rapture but a great flood (on the same day though) http://danthebirdman.me for a good laugh.

or http://www.youtube.com/user/danthebirdmanbennett#p/u/10/hJbxf_wo2Rs for a very good laugh....

Bring on the 22nd people - don't forget to point and laugh at the stupid from now on... ha ha

I saw a full page ad in USA Today hawking his "revelation" AND his book. If the world is coming to an end, why is he still trying to make money??

"The end of the world is coming what do you plan on doing?"

"I think I'll watch TV instead of spend time with my family and friends."
