Ashton Kutcher's 'Two and a Half Men' Deal Is Only for One Year

Jon Creyer, Ashton Kutcher and Angus T. JonesLast week it was all smiles as Ashton Kutcher attended CBS's annual upfront presentation in New York as the new face of top-rated comedy, 'Two and a Half Men.'

Now it seems as though Warner Bros. and CBS may not be making longterm plans for the veteran series with Kutcher.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Kutcher's new deal, which will net him an estimated $750,000 per episode, is only for one year, even though executives are still said to be keen to continue the money-spinning 'Men' for at least another two or three years.

'Men' was renewed for Seasons 8 and 9 back in 2010, before star Charlie Sheen's very public meltdown and exit. With Kutcher's signing it seemed like a new era was about to start for the series, which is due to enter its ninth season in the fall.

So why the one-year deal? If CBS decides to renew 'Men' beyond Season 9, then Warner Bros. could either renew Kutcher's contract or could look for a replacement. A short deal also gives Kutcher an escape clause in case he decides to quit the show after one lucrative season.

Kutcher will join existing 'Men' stars Holland Taylor, Angus T. Jones and Jon Cryer when the show returns, and creator Chuck Lorre greeted the news of his signing with an emphatic thumbs-up: "We are so lucky to have someone as talented, joyful and just plain remarkable as Ashton joining our family. ... If I was any happier, it'd be illegal."

Nina Tassler, President of CBS Entertainment was similarly enthusiastic. She said in a statement: "He brings creativity, energy and personality to everything he touches. We are thrilled to have him, and excited beyond words for what he brings to the next season of 'Two and a Half Men.'"

Meanwhile, in an interview with 'The Hollywood Reporter', Warner Bros. CEO Peter Roth isn't giving anything away: "The specifics are literally still being worked out. This is such a dynamic process that I'm sure [executive producer] Chuck [Lorre] will have a number of different thoughts and will write towards the extraordinary strengths of Ashton as we go through the process. What I can tell you is that we're very excited about Ashton's presence in the show."

750,000 for one episiode how many comercials do we have to watch so he can get paid that . Sorry not just him but the amout ofcommercials on the tv shows suck . Its getting to the point that no matter how good the show is those frequent and long commercial break are ruining the shows Not only my shopping budget when i go to the store to buy the stuff on TV.

I guess I will be happy watching the rerun's of 2& a half men, most are the best anyway. Without Charlie the show will flop. Hate it for the rest of the cast. Berta, and Rose were hysterical, Alan was an irksome character, Loved Herb though.... But all in all Charlie made the show what it was. It was good while it lasted. I guess it is ok to portray a character that is a boozer and womanizer, but not ok to do it in real life....???? Tough luck Chuck.... bet you wished you could kiss Charlie's ##s and beg him to come back...guess that is why there will be no coffin or urn...don't want to make it definite huh ??

Ashton Kutcher? This is seriously your cure? lol He has never been in anything that wasent a joke. The butterfly Effect would have done alot better without him and now your trying to put in a character that was built around Charlie Sheens real life or at least his persona. HUGE MISTAKE 100% WILL NOT WORK what kind of idiots come up with this? Fire them quick. GOOD LUCK WITH THAT! LMAO

i don't go to movies he is in, was happy when his '70 show character was getting less and less lines and he's got major problems too. He is perfect for 3 or 4 show ...but a whole season-UGh-NO WAY!

If Demi Moore comes back on to TV - forget it. Her voice is down right chalk on a black board. When she was on General Hospital - I put it on MUTE and just read lips.

I completely agree with you as well paula--I was hooked on that show, and Who really cares he had personal issues, so does everyone in Hollywood, but what you can not take away from him--he is a Darn good Actor!! And that show will never be the same, And I have no intentions on watching it!! Him and John cryer had a great relationship obviously only on Screen--but that cannot be duplicated!! It would have been great to bring him back--from rehab or whatever--just bring him back---but to kill him off---Stupid financial move that is for sure!!

I AGREE WITH PAULA 100%, IF THEY HAD HALF A BRAIN THEY WOULD JUST SEND OR HAVE SENT CHARLIE OFF TO A SABATICAL AND BRING THE SHOW UP TO DATE WITH HIM COMING HOME FROM REHAB FROM TO MUCH PARTYING, AND GAMBLING,AND FOOLING AROUND WITH WOMEN,HE SHOULD COME BACK AND THEN FALL OFF THE WAGON AND GO BACK TO HIS OLD SELF AGAIN. IN A FEW MONTHS.I THINK THAT WOULD FIT INTO THE SHOW GREAT,LIKE THEY DO WHEN THEY DO A AFTER AND BEFORE OR EIGHT 8 HRS ERLIER LIKE SOME SHOWS DO.GET SHEEN BACK OR MONDAY NIGHTS ARE GOING TO BE OVER .LET CHUCK LORRE-AND SHEEN BURN THEIR BRIDGES AND COME TO REALITY,THEY BOTH NEED EACH OTHER.CHARLIE HAS THE TALENT THAT NO ONE CAN MATCH,AND TRUTH BE TOLD CRYER SHOULD GO BACK TO BROADWAY WHERE HE CAME FROM.HE'S A (HAZ BEEN).THERE'S NOT TO MUCH BUT TASTELESS THAT U CAN SAY ABOUT JON CRYER.HE HAS THAT MOCK ABOUT HIM,AND HE LOOKS LIKE HE'S THAT WAY IN REAL LIFE ALSO.NOT JUST AN ACTING PART,SORRY TO SAY. I THINK CHARLIE IS GOING TO SIT BACK AND WATCH ASHTON KUTHHER MAKE A FOOL OF HIMSELF,THIS ISN'T THE '70'S SHOW,WERE NOT IN THE '70'S,GETTING HIGH IN A BASEMENT AND HANGING OUT WITH YOUR FRIENDS,AND B'SING THE WAY HE IS USE TO ACTING.AND SHEEN ON THE OTHER HAND IS GOING TO CLEAN UP ON HIS NEW GIG.AND THEN LORRE IS GOING TO KICK HIMSELF IN THE ASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

I have watched Two & a Half Men since the beginning. It was the funniest show on TV. No one will replace Charlie in that show!! That show was about his life & I believe that show was a reminder of the way he used to be until he got clean a few years ago, He is a great actor & a long career. He shouldn't have married an alcoholic which made it difficult for him not to drink with her. CBS ratings will fall on Monday nights & they will be sorry they hired Aston. He is not funny at all & I can't imagine how he will interact with the other cast members. I would not be surprised if some ot the cast quit also. I know I will NEVER watch it again without Charlie.
