'50 Cent: The Origin of Me' (Mon., 9PM ET on VH1) chronicles the rapper's journey into South Carolina to trace his roots and learn more about his family before they relocated to New York in the 1950s.While there, he came face to face with the Confederate flag and a surprising history lesson from an elderly resident of Edgefield, South Carolina. "Black citizens of this country really needs to study the history. Slaves who were brought over here on the ships, they were captured in Africa or Mongolia or wherever they came from."
50 Cent was surprised to hear that there were slaves from Mongolia, and even more surprised when the woman said that there were no distinguishing physical characteristics that differentiated them from African slaves.
"I need to study my history?" he laughed later. "Mongolian slaves in South Carolina?"
