'American Idol' Finale: Carrie Underwood and George Strait Picked the Songs, Bono and the Edge to Perform

Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreeryLauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery will take to the stage tonight for the all-country 'American Idol' finale. And it's been announced that a previous 'Idol' winner and a Country Music Hall of Famer will both have a hand in it.

Plus, veteran Irish rockers Bono and the Edge will take time out of their North American tour to perform on the results show Wednesday night with cast members from the Broadway musical, 'Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.'

According to 'USA Today,' Lauren and Scotty will each perform one song chosen for them by their personal musical hero. Specific details haven't been released yet, but we do know that Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood chose one for Lauren, and that the legendary George Strait picked out Scotty's.

The finalists will also perform two other songs during the two-hour show: Their favorite from the season and their debut single, which has been chosen for them by the show's producers.

It's also been announced that Bono and the Edge will perform with cast members from the new 'Spider-Man' Broadway musical, for which they wrote the music and lyrics. However, contrary to previous reports, the rest of U2 will not be performing.

A statement on the band's website confirmed that: "U2 are not performing on 'American Idol' this Wednesday. Bono and Edge will appear alongside Reeve Carney, who plays Peter Parker, and cast members from 'SPIDER-MAN Turn off the Dark,' which is set to open on Broadway, June 14."

The 'American Idol' Season 10 Finale airs Tuesday May 24 and Wednesday May 25, 8PM ET on FOX.

Geez, get over it. Every year is something different and this year it happens to be young country singers. Some years it is soul singers, sometimes rockers. What is the big deal? Anyone complaining must not have voted enough.

Regardless of who wins, I think Casey and Haley should tour together, they had the most unique pairing and their voices complement each other. I like Scotty because Alaina is good, but Underwood was better.

What have YOU People been watching for 9 seasons ?

The Hillbillies have voted by zip code every season, and have once again trashed the competition pushing through 2 mediocre GRITS....... This will be the 6th GRIT Winner in 9 seasons.... and only once with Underwood, did they get it remotely right.....
Allen, Fantasia, Studdert and Hicks...all mediocre at best...and long FORGOTTEN !

Obviously the AI Producers are OK with that...or they would have implemented a 1 vote per trailer rule.... years ago.....

PS.. Neither of these 2 would have made it out of the Nashville Star auditions !!!!!

It's weird these two are still here. They wouldn't even be finalists on Nashville Idol, so I'm not sure how they ended up in the finals for AI.

This is going to go down as the most boring finale in Idol history. Short of someone dying on stage there is nothing of interest to see here.

In past years the final performance show was taped the night before airing so they had more time to prepare for the Finale.....

That would give them time to autotune Scotty's performance, and make it sound like he actually hits those notes for once.
