'DWTS' Backstage Q&A: Kirstie Alley, Chelsea Kane and Hines Ward Dish the Finals

Kirstie Alley, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Kym Johnson, Hines Ward, Chelse Kane, Mark BallasMany times the winner of 'Dancing With the Stars' is predictable. Season 11's Jennifer Grey and Season 6's Kristi Yamaguchi were favored to win their respective seasons and, sure enough, both emerged as winners.

But this season, it's been nearly impossible to predict who's going to win.

Kirstie Alley trails both Chelsea Kane and Hines Ward (who are tied for first place) by a mere five points going into tonight's finale, but the former 'Cheers' actress has probably the biggest fan base of the three finalists. (Let's not forget that she played a Vulcan in fan favorite 'Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.')

Ward is a crowd favorite and has sports fans everywhere rooting for him. Kane, a Disney star, is likely supported by younger viewers, who may be more savvy when it comes to voting on-line.

The three finalists and their pro dance partners weighed in on their performances on last night's post-show press line, and AOL TV was on the scene to get their reactions.

Hines and Kym Johnson incorporated some tricky moves into their Freestyle, despite Johnson's scary neck injury last week. "We did those lifts slowly," Johnson said. "I was going to make sure we did it right. I wore my neck brace in rehearsals. We were more cautious going into it. But we were confident about the tricks."

"I felt comfortable," Ward said. "I saw her getting higher and higher with the lifts, but by the end she was a little baby in my arms."

If Ward wins he'll put the coveted mirrorball trophy next to his Super Bowl MVP trophy, but he wants to win it for his partner. "Kym's a phenomenal teacher," he said. "I've already proved to people that I can dance. I want to win [this] for her."

Kirstie Alley and Maksim ChmerkovskiyAlley said being lifted into the air by partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy during their freestyle routine was "exhilarating."

"If I told her what we were going to do, she would have been like, 'Are you out of your mind? I am out of here,'" Chmerkovskiy said.

"I would have freaked out," Alley concurred. "I have this bizarre thing with heights. I think only 5'1" girls can fly around in the air."

Mark Ballas, Kane's dance pro, revealed he battled the flu for most of last week. "I was on my back from Wednesday to Sunday," he said. "I felt like crap, but I didn't let it get to me. I still did my eight to ten hours a day. I sweated through, like, five t-shirts a day."

Kane had one slight snafu during her freestyle when she lost her battery pack, which prevented her shoes and gloves from lighting up. "I wasn't thinking of my lights so much as I was the pack flying and knocking Mark out or chipping a tooth!"

Where will Kane put the trophy if she wins? "I'll dedicate a whole room to it," she joked. "It would be the first thing I ever won. Hines and Kirstie have won Super Bowls and Emmys. The mirrorball would be my first trophy."

The 'Dancing With the Stars' Season 12 Finale airs Tuesday, 9PM ET on ABC.

AFTER THIS SERIES OF DANCING WITH THE STARS , THE JUDGES HAVE LOST ALL CREDIBILITY. POLITICS IS SO OBVIOUS , IT STINKS JUST AS THE OBSERVATION OF THE JUDGES, THEY ARE SUSPOSED TO BE PROFESSIONALS BUT WHAT EVER RULES THEM HAS TAKEN A MORE IMPORTANT STANCE, THEY HAVE BECOME THE JERRY SPRINGERS OF TV.
