Scotty McCreery Reaches High in His Quest for the 'American Idol' Title (VIDEO)

Scotty McCreery, 'American Idol'It was a packed hour as 'American Idol' (Tue., 8PM ET on FOX) kicked off its finale week, one night early. Assuming everybody remembered to tune in, they were treated to three songs each by the finalists, and even a special performance by a former 'Idol' winner.

The final round of singing featured new songs that would become the respective singles of Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina, should they win the competition. But we have a sneaking suspicion both songs will get released, anyway.

McCreery was given 'Love You This Big,' which was a little kitschy in the title and premise, but allowed him to showcase both the low end and the higher end of his register; a fact that was appreciated by judge Randy Jackson.

The 'American Idol' Season 10 finale airs Wednesday, 8PM ET on FOX.

"Scotty, you are here, you are in it to win it," he said. "It is game time. And dude, I'm proud of you because you've grown through this contest, and that was a brilliant vocal."

The judges seemed keen to give the edge for the night to Alaina, though they admitted it was by the slightest of margins. It's hard to discount McCreery's tremendous fan base. Will he be the fourth young guy in a row to win 'American Idol,' or can Alaina break up the boys club?

I think Scotty is making a mistake letting Lauren take part in his high time for being the American Idol. I don't think she should have been in the top three. I do not think she should try to move in on Scotty's recordings. She is NOT the winner and needs to step back and let Scotty shine for now. I had him picked from the beginning and would like to hear him sing WITHOUT Lauren.

scotty has a great voice and i predicted from beginning he would be a star and he has proved it he will go somewhere in country music look out boys here he comes ginny

America got it RIGHT! Scotty is incredibly talented, has so much charisma and is genuine. I love how he is laid back and cool, takes the high road and doesn't have to lower his standards to get attention like some weirdo. This is what an AI should portray. And, the judges should've kept their traps shut last night as they treated Scotty very biased. Scotty will be here a LONG TIME and will be winning all kinds of awards! ;)

laura turned me off last nite when ryan asked her if she could get thru the nite with her vocal chords and her answer was i am just fine dont you worry. to me she seemed rude. scotty was always so lovable.

Scotty is clearly the winner whether he is voted #1 or not. I predict he will be a CMA winner in the near future. His voice is great. Beyond that, he comes across as a very sincere non affected nice kid. Wishing him the best.

I think Scotty should win but the way AI coddled Lauren last night was SO biased. First, the sympathy ploy with the Dr. coming out and then the judges practically anointing her the winner. It's obvious that AI wants a female to win. Let's hope America does the right thing and votes for Scotty!!!
