'X Factor' Shake-Up: Is Nicole Scherzinger Replacing Cheryl Cole as Judge?

by Maggie Furlong, posted May 25th 2011 7:00PM
Cheryl Cole & Nicole ScherzingerSimon Cowell's new show 'X Factor' doesn't premiere for another four months, but there's already trouble in his post-'Idol' ploy for TV domination.

TMZ is reporting that one of the previously announced judges, British pop singer Cheryl Cole, is out. Replacing her? Former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger, who was set to co-host the show with Brit Steve Jones.

Why the switch? No one knows for sure -- could it be the rash of "Who is Cheryl Cole?" searches lately? -- but it doesn't bode well for the show, which has already been taping audition rounds in L.A.

Fellow judges Simon Cowell, L.A. Reid and Paula Abdul are staying put, as far as we know. Also Jones will now reportedly be the only host; Scherzinger's former co-host slot will not be filled.

TMZ claims that producers were worried Cole's accent would be too thick for American audiences to understand. They're also hearing that Cole and Abdul had a "lack of chemistry" ... and we all know how much Simon loves his Paula.

On top of that, there were rumors a few weeks back that Scherzinger nixed co-host frontrunner and former 'High School Musical' star Corbin Bleu, telling producers to go with Steve Jones instead. Apparently, the Doll's got power ...

The bigger issue now will be how this affects Cole's involvement in the original British 'X Factor.' After a dismissal like this, will she ever work with Cowell & co again?

No one from the network or Cowell's camp has commented on this story, so expect more details as they come.

What do you think of the change? At this point, do you even care?

Didn't she choose love over the job? I read that they were all pushing Cheryl to end her one year relationship with Derek Hough! I admire her for doing the "right" thing. Her personal life should have nothing to do with her ability to judge a talent show!

how horrible! i don't know much about cole, i went to the taping in la and i liked her. she's something to look at, compared to paula... also, even though she had accent, she had a nice speaking voice actually. one thing i noticed is that she might not be very familiar with some american registers: at one point she said to one very well built and buff contestant who's wearing sort of tight jeans also, after he finished singing, that he had a nice "package''. cole might have meant it innocently that he had both nice voice and looks also. in america when we refer to a man's "package" it means something very different :). my friend who's also in the audience kind of gasped when she heard that. others laughed. but cole is very good looking, has a lot of appeals, she might enter hollywood and become famous here maybe thru movies, who knows.

I like Cheryl, she has the bigger cute factor (dimples and accent), but IMO, Nicole has more talent. I usually watch the UK X Factor, but given all of the judge changes in all of these shows, I'm axing most singing competitions out of my schedule and just sticking with "The Voice."

Rule of Thumb: Anyone tha spends the time it takes to post nonsense fonts, (with screams, repeating figures, and other items signifying nothing), is very likely a young adolescent.

Adolescents are a waste of time.
