'American Idol' Season 10 Finale: And The Winner Is ... (VIDEO)

Scotty McCreery & Lauren Alaina, 'American Idol' finaleIt's been a crazy ride this season on 'American Idol' (Wed., 8PM ET on FOX), but it came down to two country singers who aren't even old enough to vote yet. Scotty McCreery slowly expanded his vocal range as we moved along, while Alaina nearly didn't make the finale at all thanks to a blown vocal chord.

They both gave it all they had, bringing us two new songs at the end of the performance night that we could both see as hits in country music radio. In fact, as far as their career potential goes, this result almost doesn't matter.

The night was so packed with special guests and performances from all the Top 13 Idols from Season 10 that by the time Ryan said to dim the lights, we couldn't believe it was already time to find out who'd won.

!!SPOILER ALERT!!

Despite connecting emotionally with viewers Tuesday night with a moving tribute to her mother, Lauren Alaina just couldn't overpower Scotty McCreery's huge fan base. McCreery was so moved that he broke down completely by the end of his performance of what will be his first single.

Do you think the right person won? Did Lauren have a chance against the purported "teenage girl" voting segment? What changes, if any, do you think 'Idol' needs to make to its format next season?

I think Lauren should have won. Scotty aint sexy nor cute he looks like a child; when he sings you want to look up an see a tim mcgraw or blake shelton not him. He needs to go home and come back when he grows up and not looking like woody from toy story 3!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would NEVER BUY ANYTHINTG OF HIS EVER IDOL PIA JAMES AND LAUREN SHOULD HAVE BEEN TOP 3!! the judges should vote cause AMERICA IS STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

each cell phone number should only get ONE vote. ONE. its not fair that all the little girls can vote for who they want to win. they shouldnt allow you to be able to vote more than once. scotty was clearly over-powered by Lauren's voice. Lauren should have won based on her singing talent.

Never of the top two deserved to win. American Idol seems to be for the very young or the older people. It wasn't based on talent as neither has star quality nor could sing one song without a problem. That should not be the case with a professional singer.

After Adam Lambert lost I knew it was not about the singer but popularity. At least Adam has a record out, went on a world tour, plus has another record coming out soon.

I am done with Idol. Too tiny bopper for me. Too bad as the judges were good and they did have some good singers available yet the country people won as those are the ones who vote??? I haven't a clue. Someone said that Scotty was going to sing at a McDonalds. Oh brother that is fitting. Tacky!!

I quit watching this show until the very end and I was shocke

Scotty's adorable, with great star quality. It was interesting to see that he apparently had a "special" affection for Lauren Alaina, more that just friends.....we'll see what happens.
