Dr. Oz Talks About Moving Into 'Oprah's' Time Slot on 'The View' (VIDEO)

by Harley W. Lond, posted May 26th 2011 7:00PM
Dr. Mehmet Oz and 'The Dr. Oz Show' is moving into 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' time slot and the good doctor was on 'The View' (weekdays, syndicated on ABC) to talk about what that means to him and his show.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck kicked things off by asking him, "Do you feel pressure moving into that time zone? ... What's your mindset?"

Despite the fact that it's a mighty time slot to fill, Dr. Oz feels no pressure. Instead, he said he has a responsibility.

"At the end of the day what I'm really doing is carrying on the tradition she's crafted," he said. "Historically, there was always a healer or a teacher, someone in the village who connected everybody. They made them feel that they were worthy. That's what Oprah taught me how to do. I spent eight years at Oprah University," which is more years than he spent at college and med school.

He's made the commitment to make her proud. "That's my intention, my promise."

Lofty ideals indeed ...

Here in DC, Dr. OZ show is moving to 4PM, but not on ABC7, where Oprah was. His show will be on FOX5 at the same time as Dr. Phil on CBS9.

Dr. Oz is a schmuck. He put that fake psychic John Edward on his show, and did not call him out as a fake, and a liar. Shame on Oz!! Doctors are supposed to be scientists, but Oz is into all this fake, mumbo jumbo "pseudo" spiritual crap! America deserves better than this! I am not an atheist, I am a person of faith, but the supernatural has its place, and science has its place. Dr. Oz is the most biased, idiotic guy on tv.

Dr. Oz is a schmuck. He had that fake psychic John Edwards on his show, and did not call him out as a fake like he should have. What's wrong with Oz? He doesn't think like a scientist, and that's what doctors are supposed to be. America deserves better than this.

Oz maybe the king of pop medicine, but much of what he says is either poorly researched or applies to so broad a spectrum of people that following his advice does an individual no good whatsoever. But then, he is an entertainer disquised as a doctor. In the old days, we called 'em quacks.

Dr Oz is a cardiac surgeon. He spent a little more than eight years between college and med school - unless you don't count his internship, in which case he wouldn't be a doctor. And perhaps you think becoming a surgeon and, further, a cardiac surgeon, doesn't necessitate any training? There's a reason there are "teaching" hospitals, they are part of the education process.

As of last year in January he was still a practicing cardiac surgeon - as in open heart surgery - in Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in Manhattan, where Clinton had his surgery done. I know because a family member had heart surgery and he was one of the recommended doctors for the surgery. We did not call his office because, I thought, having a TV show is enough work to keep anyone busy - a surgeon generally has more than enough work to then handle a show: something's gotta give. I wouldn't want someone operating on me or anyone a bit sleepy because of having worked 80 hours the previous week because of having two time consuming careers. Not that I'm saying he would do that, only that I wouldn't take the chance.

As for his show - it's afternoon entertainment, not quality television. He's in it for the money not to alienate all the nuts who want to believe a con like Edwards; of which there are millions in the US and all over the world.

As for doctors being scientists, no they are not. They are medics - butchers - who, most times, leave the patient alive a little longer and sometimes help the person. They don't have time for research, which is what "scientists" do.

And we get to his show's research: Isn't it produced by Oprah? She didn't even bother doing background research for books she recommended, you think she's going to bother for her other shows? Doesn't she also produce that other show, Dr Phil? By the way, I heard Phil is no doctor.

No, I have not watched a single episode of the Oz show, or the Dr Phil show or, for many, many years now, the Oprah show. And, by the way, TV programming is targeted at the lowest common denominator. This is what "America" has been reduced to.
