What to Watch: TV Picks for May 30 - June 5
Remember when this franchise was a cruel plastic surgery show, back in the days of 'The Swan' and 'Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire'? In some ways this new edition is going back to its roots, but without cosmetic dentists or mean-spirited and disparaging remarks that led to lawsuits and an alleged suicide.
In the season premiere, we meet one contestant -- a 21-year-old overachiever named Rachel who aims to lose 80 pounds in 3 months -- and she weighs nearly 400 pounds at the beginning of the series.
Also This Week:
Hiccups - Monday May 30, 8PM ET/PT, CTV
Tonight, it's the second season debut of this homegrown hit starring real-life sweethearts Brent Butt and Nancy Robertson (of 'Corner Gas'). It opens with Millie taking a trip to Hollywood along with Stan and David, all in the hopes of creating a Grumpaloo movie. Meanwhile back at the ranch Joyce is creating home-made skin care products.
Platinum Hit - Sunday June 5, 10PM ET, MuchMoreMusic
From the producers of 'Project Runway' and 'Top Chef' comes yet another music show, but the classy pedigree has me somewhat hopeful here. This show is looking for a great songwriter, not singer, and weekly challenges will test contestants' mettle. Kara DioGuardi is the head judge, Jewel is the host, and celeb guest judges include Natasha Bedingfield and Donna Summer.
2011 MTV Movie Awards - Sunday June 5, 9PM ET, MTV Canada/MTV
Jason Sudeikis -- best known from 'SNL' but dearly missed as the Floydster on '30 Rock' -- hosts this 20th annual celebration of things that are already popular. Some of those things include performers Foo Fighters and Lupe Fiasco, presenters from Disney, 'Gossip Girl' and the cover of US Weekly, and the nominated films that already won stuff, like 'Inception' and 'The Social Network'.
