'Platinum Hit' Songwriters Get Inspired by Los Angeles in Series Premiere (VIDEO)

'Platinum Hit'Kara DioGuardi and Jewel Kilcher kicked off their new songwriting series 'Platinum Hit' (Mon., 10PM ET on Bravo) by showing us how to make songwriting interesting. You do it by putting the contestants into groups and having them collaborate on new songs around a singular theme, in this case Los Angeles.

This gave us four new songs to hear, and while they were all rough in places, you could definitely gain an appreciation for how difficult songwriting can be. Especially in a collaborative environment featuring people with such varied backgrounds and preferred genres.

In the end, Nick, Jes and Karen pulled out a victory with their song 'My City.' It was a little cheesy at times, but we enjoyed their story of someone linking the city with dreams of stardom. Its innocence was a lot of its charm.

The song that was picked as the worst was 'Make Believe' by Scotty, Brian and Nevin, meaning one of them was in danger of going home. Nevin got the boot, though at this early stage of the competition it's hard to have a strong feeling one way or the other about it.

Did you catch the premiere of 'Platinum Hit' and if so, what did you think?
