'The Event' Heading to Syfy?

by Chris Harnick, posted Jun 1st 2011 4:30PM
The EventUPDATE: Craig Engler of Syfy took to Twitter and dispelled the rumors.

"To answer some questions I've been getting," he tweeted, "at this time we have no plans to pick up The Event."

Previously: 'The Event' lives on!? Maybe, according to reports.

The canceled NBC series may have found a second life, and new home on NBC's sister network, Syfy.

Deadline is reporting creator Nick Wauters and executive producer Steve Stark are in talks with Syfy to bring the alien drama to the network as a miniseries. Given that NBC and Syfy are all under the NBC Universal umbrella, the deal could take shape rather quickly.

However, the players involved have to deal with going from a broadcast series budget to that of a cable miniseries. Financial constraints could prevent this event from ever taking place.

Rescuing a popular, canceled broadcast show is not totally out of the norm. TNT did it with 'Southland' and and NBC and DirecTV struck a deal that kept 'Friday Night Lights' around for two seasons longer than if it had just stayed on the Peacock network.

Syfy is also reportedly looking at Fox's discarded 'Locke & Key,' pilot, but no official talks have begun, the report says.

yeah. Finish it proper. With at least 8 more episode's.

Freakin' planet popping up in the sky. The gravitational disturbances
alone would be horrendous. We would be 'That Asteroid Belt
between Venus and Mars'

I still haven't gotten over NBC cancelling The Even the way they did. A mini series to wrap things up vs. leaving fans hanging is utter & complete bullshit. Just prove that the networks don't care about what fans want. And those of us who watch via dvr or on demand don't count in the outdated, antiquated rating system. Unflippinreal.

Of course we want to see more of The Event! There is a huge hole in TV viewing where weekly sci fi shows used to be. The Event has both good plot and good action, and is less difficult to follow than Lost. Many people missed the first season because...frankly...NBS didn't have much else to offer. It was easy to miss. With a little more advertising and a good time slot, I'm sure it could be a hit for several years.

If SGU (superior show to The Event) couldn't survive on Syfy because of budget and ratings The Event wouldn't have a chance. Plus, The Event is an absolutely horrible television show. Even though Syfy needs more SCIFI I'm glad The Event wont be on Television ever again.

Not surprizing that Syfy won't pick up The Event. They hardly have any science fiction on the channel now any way.

Seriously. Now if "The Event" was about "pro" wrestling they'd pick it up in a New York minute.
