It was a lot more of the same as Season 2 of 'Covert Affairs' (Wed., 10PM ET on USA) kicked off. Annie got in over her head, but proved she still has very impressive instincts, and a healthy dose of luck to go with it.

For the premiere, we had to put Ben back in a position of absence-makes-the-heart-grow-fonder, but first how about some rekindled romance and danger to tie Annie's heart even closer to him.

Of course, we all know that she should be with Auggie. Even the actors and creators seem to know this, as the chemistry is so completely different with Ben than it is with Auggie.

With Ben, it just kind of is, but when Annie's with Auggie you can feel the heat oozing off of both of them. So it might not have been a bad thing if Annie hadn't succeeded in freeing Ben from the bad men with the big guns, but it would have shortened the shelf-life of this series.

So for now, a well-timed shot by an ally saved both Annie and Ben from getting shot in the back. Annie's heart will continue to be drawn to Ben, even in his absence, and we can continue hoping that they'll make like David and Maddie on 'Moonlighting' and just jump the shark already.

Actually, we think this show could survive an Auggie-Annie relationship quite well. They're just so adorable together, who wouldn't want to watch them ... well, together!
