Dia Frampton Owns Kanye West's 'Heartless' As Piano Ballad on 'The Voice' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 8th 2011 3:41AM
Dia Frampton, 'The Voice'Despite having already released a major label album with her sister as Meg & Dia in 2009, Blake Shelton noticed that Dia Frampton seemed to have a nervous energy about her on 'The Voice' (Tue., 9PM ET on NBC). The band is unsigned now, so perhaps she sees this as a last opportunity to make a career doing what she loves.

In this first week of live competition, it's more important than ever for the contestants to come out strong and give their best performances. Shelton gave Frampton a real chance to shine with an unusual song choice in Kanye West's 'Heartless.'

To direct her nervous energy, she performed behind a grand piano and gave a very interesting and compelling performance. While her voice may not have soared as acrobatically as those on Christina Aguilera's team this week, Frampton certainly gave one of the most memorable performances of the night.

This week saw each of the four members of Team Blake and Team Christina perform. Next week, it will be Adam Levine and Cee Lo Green's teams. To make matters even more nerve-wracking for the singers, half of each team will be cut in this round of the competition.

Who stood above the pack for you this week on 'The Voice'?

I liked Dia, too, but I wish they hadn't acted like she just came up with that version of the song on her own. Allen debuted that version of the song nearly 2 years ago on American Idol.

I think her voice made it different, so that didn't bother me. I wish someone had credited Allen though.

They were two different versions. Kris' was was a more pop "what people want to hear" version, whereas Dia's was more haunting and slower. Plus, The Fray came out with "that version' before Kris. And Kris should have credited The Fray then.

I knew she looked familiar! I've seen Meg & Dia live twice and I just never made the connection.

I really enjoyed her performance this week. Her song and Jared's song were my favorites. I hope they both get to stay. I have enjoyed this show this season. It is just different enough to be fresh and interesting to watch. Go Dia and Jared.
