Stephen Colbert Challenges Sugar Ray Leonard to Thumb Wrestle (VIDEO)

If you can't beat a champ at their game, level the playing field to something you're more confident in. That's exactly what Stephen Colbert did to Sugar Ray Leonard on 'The Colbert Report' (Weeknights, 11:30PM ET on Comedy Central).

"I can't believe I'm doing this, but I'm gonna throw down the glove right now," he declared dramatically. "Will you thumb-wrestle me?"

Leonard tried to get inside his head by reminding Colbert that he was a "real fighter," but it didn't work. "I had eight brothers," Colbert returned.

And then it was on. A brutal match, with both fighters trying to psych each other out, several false starts, but in the end there could be only one victor.

"I beat World Champion Sugar Ray Leonard," Colbert proclaimed.

As long as no one asks what he beat him in, it's quite a lofty thing to be able to claim.
