What to Watch: TV Picks for June 13-19

by Maureen Ryan, posted Jun 12th 2011 2:00PM

'Regular Show' (8:15PM ET, Cartoon Network)
Now it can be told: This show is one of my not-so-secret addictions. It's the enjoyably surreal, funny and juvenile chronicle of Rigby the raccoon and Mordecai the blue jay, slackers who goof off from their jobs as park workers every chance they get. Given that their boss is a talking gumball machine and they hang out with characters like Skips (a Yeti voiced by Mark Hamill), Pops (an old-timey gent with a giant head), the constantly aggravated Muscle Man and his best pal, High Five Ghost, things often get winningly weird. In Monday's episode, Rigby gets angry when Mordecai mocks him for not having a high school diploma, so he takes steps to become 'More Smarter' (don't attack my grammar, that's the title of the episode).

'Single Ladies' (9PM ET, VH1)
In the new scripted show from VH1, April's marriage to Darryl hits a rough patch.

'Two Spirits' (PBS, check local listings)
This Independent Lens documentary explores traditional Navajo beliefs about those who are believed to embody both masculine and feminine spirits, and takes a close look at a 2001 murder of a transgender Navajo teenager.

'The Nine Lives of Chloe King' (9PM ET, ABC Family) series premiere
On her 16th birthday, a teenager discovers she has special abilities and dangerous enemies.

'Pretty Little Liars' (8PM ET, ABC Family) season premiere
Ian's body is missing and the whole town of Rosewood is an uproar, plus Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer have to talk out their many problems with a therapist. But can they spill the beans about 'A'?

'White Collar' (9PM ET, USA)
Real-life brothers Danny and Christopher Masterson guest as siblings contesting their father's will.

'Jon Benjamin Has a Van' (10:30PM ET, Comedy Central) series premiere
The star of 'Archer' and 'Bob's Burgers' steps out of the voice booth and acts as the host of this live-action fake newsmagazine, which has him traveling America in search of incidents to describe in that hilariously deadpan voice of his. Another episode will air 10:30pm ET Wednesday, which is the show's regular time slot.

'Hot in Cleveland' (10PM ET, TV Land) season premiere
The ladies of Cleveland return for more sitcom shenanigans.

'Happily Divorced; (10:30PM ET, TV Land) series premiere
A woman (played by Fran Drescher) and her gay ex-husband live together -- happily, as the title indicates.

'American Experience: Stonewall Uprising' (PBS, check local listings)
A documentary about the flowering of the gay rights movement, which many trace back to the 1969 riot that ensued after the police raided a Greenwich Village bar.

'Friday Night Lights' (8PM ET, NBC)
The Lions football team is in disarray as Coach Taylor threatens to suspend Vince.

'Outcasts' (9PM ET, BBC America) series premiere
A group of pioneers have established a settlement on a new planet, but can they resolve the conflicts within the group as they all struggle to survive? Eric Mabius and Jamie Bamber are among the actors in this British production.

'The Inbetweeners' (11PM ET, BBC America) season premiere
Comedic shenanigans and social awkwardness from British high schoolers Will, Simon and Neil.

'Come Fly With Me' (11:30PM ET, BBC America) series premiere
'Little Britain's' Matt Lucas and David Walliams play dozens of characters in this "documentary" about an English airport.

'Game of Thrones' (9PM ET, HBO) season finale
Kudos to this fantasy series from overcoming a rocky beginning and having a strong run of episodes toward the end of the season. If the season finale is as strong as recent episodes, fans will be insanely eager to see where things go in season 2.

'The Killing' (10PM ET, AMC) season finale
'The Killing' had the opposite trajectory of 'Game of Thrones' -- the AMC drama started out strong but lost almost all momentum along the way. At least in the finale, the mystery of Rosie Larsen's murder will be solved. Probably?

'Falling Skies (9PM ET, TNT) series premiere
Noah Wyle and Moon Bloodgood are among the ragtag survivors of an alien invasion. This summer's high-profile science-fiction series has Steven Spielberg as one of its executive producers.

'Drop Dead Diva' (9PM ET, Lifetime) season premiere
The continuing adventures of a model who wakes up in the curvier body of an attorney named Jane (Brooke Elliott).

Ya why did you change the "what's on tonight"? Seems like some writers are lazy, seriously this is what you call a "what's on tonight" section?

@ Farley
The new location of the rebel base is at http://cliqueclack.com

Seriously though almost ALL of the old TVSquad bloggers are there, and they do movies too.

Remember the good old days of TVSquad. This was my number one site! Now there is of much poop reporting. I do understand that there is not much on TV so it is slim picking for us. It is worst for TVSquad because they have to review the Price is Right. AARRGGG. If anyone makes a site or finds a site that is as good as old TVSquad was please post.

What happened to the "What's on TV tonight" column? That was very helpful to see all the new episodes going on that night!

O Nikos

Once again, what a horrible selection of TV picks, one can do a better job flipping through the cable's TV guide, but this used to be at least a helper. I gave it yet one more shot after the fiasco last week, but it's official this new AOL thing has ruined TV squad!!!
