Stephen Colbert Thanks LeBron James for Being So Classy and Modest (VIDEO)

by Catherine Lawson, posted Jun 14th 2011 8:35AM
Stephen Colbert vs. LeBron JamesNBA star Lebron James came in for some withering sarcasm on 'The Colbert Report' (Weeknights, 11:30PM ET on Comedy Central).

Talking about how LeBron and "America's Sweetheart Team," the Miami Heat, had fallen to the Dallas Mavericks in Game 6 of the NBA Finals, Stephen Colbert mocked the grandiose way in which LeBron opened the season and the petulant way he ended it.

Casting his eye over what he referred to as "the humble beginnings" of the season, when the ending of LeBron's free agent saga was the subject of a live one-hour TV "event" on ESPN, Colbert showed footage of LeBron and his teammates Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade rising heroically onto a stage via forklift amid a ton of smoke and spotlights.

Then Colbert showed us LeBron in defeat, saying "of course, [he] handled it with class," before running a clip of LeBron speaking at the post-Finals press conference, in which he was distinctly less than gracious about his critics.

Summing up LeBron's "classy" speech, Colbert -- tongue firmly in cheek -- opined: "It's not whether you win or lose, it's how you disparage the pathetic lives of the little people who make it possible for you to have a career bouncing an inflatable ball."

Horrible by Colbert. Pat Riley, a 65 year old, put those young guys up on that fork lift and threw the party. They were caught up in the moment. LeBron NEVER said the working guy is bad. He was asked how he felt about the HATERs who have been blasting him all year. All he said was maybe they got enjoyment out of it but in the end everyone has to go back to real life, problems and all. The media totally misrepresented LeBron. Colbert is normally much better than piling on the lame hate LeBron wagon. Boo Stephen, you dropped the inflatable ball on this one. And what job do you do? Pretend to be a right winger and tell bad jokes? Get over yourself little man.

Jo N Teena, I see your avatar has rose-colored glasses so you cannot see the truth. The BoyzToMen opening act started this terrific slide. Tatooing his own back with "Chosen" and wearing a wreistband with "King Hames" doesn't help much either. It ain't braggin' if you back it up. If you don't back it up, it's just oatmeal.

Really, and like picking on people for jokes as a career choice is any better than playing basketball for a career? I believe being an athlete involves a lot more skill than what you do Stephen. Lebron was addressing the hateful and disrespectful people that attacked him for doing what was best for him. He was not attacking the "little people" as you'd say. You stay classy Stephen, NOT!!!

Plain and simple everyone, including the media was hoping for him to fail. The man is sick of it. He just lost the biggest game of his career, who wouldn't be upset? Back off people!

Well said Stephen... James' arrogance just never seems to deteriorate, no matter how much of an idiot he makes of himself. I say Cleveland got the better end of the deal in the long-run. James was never going to be able to bring home the crown there, and so far, Miami is getting the same returns on their investment.
