Kara DioGuardi Tells Regis About 'Platinum Hit,' Says Songwriting Is Hard Work (VIDEO)

Kara DioGuardi has written hit songs for Pink, Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera and others, and that's hard work, she said Friday on 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated). DioGuardi might be best known as judge on 'American Idol,' which is primarily billed as a singing contest. But her new show on Bravo, 'Platinum Hit,' is all about the songwriters."It's a really difficult thing, it's not easy to write hit songs," said DioGuardi. "And it's Bravo, so there's a lot of drama." That job is made harder with the distractions of a reality show setting. "We're starting to get into some good stuff because, like, two of the characters, or two of the contestants have a little romance going on," said DioGuardi. "In the house they're living in -- where they should be writing songs."
Regrettably, that gave Regis Philbin flashbacks to Thursday's show, when Michael Bolton was a guest, prompting him to butcher 'When a Man Loves a Woman,' making it an off-key, staccato 'When a Man Needs a Woman' that's more a cry for help than a love song.
