What to Watch: TV Picks for June 20 - 26

The Marriage Ref - Sunday June 26, 10 PM ET/PT, Citytv/NBC

The second season of Jerry Seinfeld's comedy roundtable debuts to much consternation, since it was generally agreed that the show was a flop. To be honest, I'm really happy about it. I thought the first season was pretty funny and at least it's not another singing competition. Julianne Moore and Ricky Gervais join Jerry on the panel and Tom Papa is back to referee.

Also This Week:

101 Ways to Leave A Game Show - Tuesday June 21, 8 PM ET/PT, CTV/ABC

More summer reality, I'm afraid. Expanded on the 'Minute to Win It' and 'Cube' theme, this show is less about the games contestants play to win money and more about the elaborate ways they are ejected from the set -- being fired out of cannons, hoisted by helicopters and so on.

Expedition Impossible - Thursday June 23, 9 PM ET/PT, CTV/ABC

And even more summer reality. Mark Burnett strikes again with this 'Amazing Race'-style show which has teams of three working their way across Morocco. As I've always privately referred to 'Amazing Race' as 'Stress in Airports,' I'm hopeful that keeping it within the borders of a single nation will mean less time running through concourses and arguing with flight attendants. This show may sound like 'Amazing Race' but it's clear the visual model is another Burnett hit, 'Survivor.' Seriously, glance at the logo quickly and you'll start hearing African drums.

The Glee Project - Sunday June 26, 9 PM ET, Slice/8 PM ET, Oxygen

Yes, it's a show about a show. In this summer reality show, music theater types compete for a role on 'Glee,' and each week are assigned a project song, are coached by 'Glee' cast members and crew, and then slowly get eliminated. For me, it's probably the perfect antidote to 'Glee' -- all the songs, none of the soapy plots.
