There are many paths to fame, but perhaps few as unlikely as the one forged by Florence Welch of Florence + the Machine. As Stephen Colbert phrased it on 'The Colbert Report' (Weeknights, 11:30PM ET on Comedy Central), she was discovered while "singing drunkenly in a girls' bathroom."

There was also an element of lying, as Welch professed to have a band when she didn't, and then got that non-existent band booked to play at a Christmas party.

Things worked out for Welch, but we don't recommend these tactics as the best way to break into show business. First and foremost, we're surprised that such business deals are going down in bathrooms in Soho. But we're glad they are, as without them we wouldn't have Florence + the Machine.
